Bethany left Martel to herself, now that she seemed calm. She’d returned the knife, confident that Martel wasn’t going to hurt herself or anyone else. She returned the plates to the replicator and made her way back toward her quarters. Midnight cake and icecream…it did wonders. But if she didn’t get some sleep, or at least try, Ryley was going to know. And as much fun as it was to tease him, she didn’t want to be on his bad side for what he would deem a health risk, or something, that he made up, just to be grumpy.

She entered her quarters with a plan to try and meditate one more time before she went to bed. Or maybe a shower and then bed. With that thought in mind she grabbed the hem of her sweeter as she was stepping through the door.

“Hate to tell you how to do your job there sunshine, but tends to be good security sense to check your quarters are empty before stripping naked when you come in.” A voice said.

Bethany laughed low but it sounded a bit…bitter. How unlike her. “Doc I always expect someone to be in my quarters. I’m paranoid that way.” She continued to take the sweater off anyway and then made her way over to a chair where she grabbed her discarded robe and slipped it on. “Most people have a taboo about fighting in the nude. Throws them off, makes them hesitate. Never bothered me. Knife is gonna cut you on bare skin or through your shirt either way.”

“True.” He said.

Ryley, his grumpy self, sat in a chair spinning his cane in wide circles idly between his finger tips. He had the sort of look most parents get when catching their kids sneaking back into the house after a night out.

“So you’re gunna want to hear this one…there I am, I’m sickbay, minding my own business and guess what happens? I’ll tell you, the alarm on the readout from your monitor triggers. So I’m like huh that’s odd she’s likely asleep. And then low and behold, glucose levels and other hormone levels through the roof…so dutifully I head down here and you don’t answer, medical override and nope no sign of you.” He shook his head as if disappointed. “Good midnight snack?”

Bethany overlapped the front of her robe and tied the belt, and then sat down on the chair opposite from him. “I know we have this whole pirate ship thing going, but internal comms still work. You could have tried that or even used the computer to find me.” Then she grinned, “Awww Ryley, were you worried about me?” She waves towards the wall behind her. “Neighbor had a knock down drag out with the bed sheet and lost. Went to check on them. Cake and ice cream goes a long way. Want me to go get you some?”

For the second time around Bethany, Ryley’s face flushed slightly. “Didn’t need to find you…just need to make sure you were ok…thought I’d wait to make sure…I made a promise.” he coughed awkwardly and rubbed the back of his neck. “Never liked ice cream personally so I’ll pass on that one.”

Bethany sobered slightly, not missing the flush either, “I’m sorry I made you worry.” She leaned forward slightly, the robe not tied quite as much as it should be, but still modest enough. “So no ice cream, okay. Other than booze what do you like for desert?” She grinned right at him.

Ryley stared, he was human after all, he frowned. “Never was one for sweets…” he said softly and then he blinked hard and pulled his eyes away and back to hers, a grin spreading across his features. “Ohh no no no no, I’m onto you Sunshine.” He said

Sunshine? Oh she got a promotion. This was getting interesting. “Are you now? Well good, now things can get interesting.” She waggled her brows at him and then chuckled softly.

“Alright, so what you wanna check me over and make your trip worth the effort?”

“Well, better make sure theres a reason for me being here I guess.”

Bathany waved her hand, “Where you want me? Or do you need to drag me in my robe back to Sickbay?”

Chuckling he said “You can sit here. Won’t take long.” He pulled a tricorder out of his back pocket and opening it began a basic scan. As the device worked he looked around the quarters. “Nice place.” He said conversationally.
