Shara pondered that for a moment. “I can ask her. She’s pretty clever with encryption, I bet when she gets to her new position and gets settled we could make something work.” But then she frowned and sat back a bit. There wasn’t any guarantee they would even get the chance. Not with this mission. In fact, aside from Micah’s assurance that Faye got a cryptic message and knew the score, she had had no contact with either daughter and it was bugging her more than she had expected. But after finally letting herself be seen and be in the land of the living, could anyone blame her? She sipped from her coffee to cover the longer than necessary pause.

Ryley watched Shara. “You wanna talk about it?” He asked in a noncommittal sort of way.

Calloway shrugged. “It’s been a weird time. And this is my first shipboard assignment since I was stuck in the Delta Quadrant. Back then I wanted nothing more then to get back to my family and friends, only to find most of the m were dead. Now I’m anxious to stay alive long enough to see my family again. This mission is triggering a lot of crap right now,” she all but grumbled.

Ryley sat back, interlocking his fingers while his cane remained hooked in the edge of the table. “So…is it the reacclimatising to ship life, interference from your time in the delta quadrant or other…” he looked meaningfully at her. “Or the irony and worry that this time it’ll be you that’s dead and your family unable to get back to you.” He tilted his head as he watched her.
