Bethany gaze landed on the seeming intruder. Andorian with a cane, older, would be a blue science uniform. Name: Lt Cmdr Tolar Zareth, Association: intel and medical background, Last known assignment: USS Europa, Current assignment: stuck with this rag tag group as their chief science officer. Bethany glanced from the new comer to Ryley and back sighed. She was the chief of security and in charge of ship’s safety. She hopped off the bio bed, “Alright this is what we’re gonna do. Take a lesson from my uncles. You two can end this nicely, or you can fight till one of you can’t get up. The winner takes me to dinner.”

Gadi, CoS

Zareth’s grin tightened and grew serious, then twisted into a grimace. The Andorian spat a few guttural sounding syllables, obviously not federation english. Perhaps his native tongue.

Ryley spat back a retort in the same language that was quickly cut off…

Then, with surprising speed, his cane whirled across and impacted Ryley’s own with a loud CLACK as he swung it like a weapon… As soon as the impact happened, the Andorian was already moving again. He used the momentum of his own blow to launch his other fist at Ryley’s face, his footwork bringing him inside the man’s guard in a manner that belied intensive combat training.

Tightening his grip on his own cane at the last second saved it from coming out of his hand on impact. The movement was fast, he was out of practice and with limited time managed to clench his jaw and tilt back enough to deflect some of the blow as the fist hit him square on the jaw. His head moved hard to the side cracking his neck and aggravating the healing dislocation of his shoulder from the Klingon bar fight. He hissed through his teeth. In return while his opponent was close in proximity he brought his good knee up sharply towards the man’s abdomen and spun side ways spinning his cane in his hand he brought the heavier side down to roughly where the man’s head should be.

OOC: (SORRY!!!! Old habits and all… NOT trying to steal Ryley’s job! lol)

Zareth twisted his body roughly to avoid taking Ryley’s knee in his gut, instead causing a glancing blow to his hip. (Which sent waves of agony through the permanently damaged nerve endings in his right leg.) This motion also saved Zareth from being brained on the noggin by Ryley’s cane. The Andorian growled a curse as the opposing cane landed where his neck and shoulder met. He winced for half a second before leaning hard away from Ryley while grabbing and yanking a handful of the man’s sleeve, trying to throw the Doctor off balance and to the floor with his own momentum.

-Zareth, CSO

Ryley’s own bad leg burned he went down like a sack of bajoran tubers. Managing just to keep hold of his cane. From the floor he used it to tangle between the Andorian’s legs and targeted the weaker one specifically.

Zareth grunted and tucked his chin into his chest as he fell, using the momentum of the fall tuck and roll his body so that he could steer himself into landing on his shoulders and upper back, neck muscles cording out to keep his skull from hitting the deck. At the same time, somehow, his ebony cane came down and impacted the deck plates just to the left of Ryley’s head with a thud.

Ryley rolled, pulling himself up to a knee, he seized the scientist by the front of his shirt and yanking him upwards hit him square in the face with a right jab. He released his grip on the other man and ended up sitting on his backside on the floor.

It was then the two started hitting one another from the floor. One particular blow caught him in the ribs and winded him a moment.

Across sickbay Bailey came running towards them both clapping her hands. “Stop it! Stop it this instant!” She said and looked at Bethany for some sort of help.

Bethany sighed and walked around the flailing pair on the floor. “It’s alright Bailey just go back in the other room.” Bethany turned back after shooing the nurse out and tsked. “I expected more finesse instead of blunt force.”

Gadi, CoS

Bailey went looking worriedly back. “Oh but…are you sure…” the door swished shut behind her.

Tolar grinned from the floor, antennae curling forward as he glanced over at Ryley and then at Gadi.

“Old age and craft beats youth and finesse…”

He sat up, exhaling hard, and offered his other hand to Ryley to help the man likewise sit up.

“Doesn’t it, Pinkskin?”

-Zareth, CSO

“Old age and well executed craft beat youth and brute strength. There was no craft to that. It was like watching hormone driven, steroid pumped children in their first schoolyard brawl.” Bethany picked up both canes and examined them carefully, testing the weight and balance, eyes gleaming and then returned them.

“That was kinda the point.” Ryley chuckled from the floor.

Catching his breath, Ryley took the hand and allowed himself to be pulled upwards. He sat massaging his jaw and rubbed some of the blood from the inside of his bottom lip. His expression also becoming a grin. “You’d know you old quack.”

He looked up at Bethany still grinning. “Don’t worry kid, old blue and I go way back.”

Bethany looked at Ryley dead pan and said rather dryly, “Obviously.”

To Tolar he frowned and rotated his shoulder grimacing at the shot of pain. “You added weights to that stick since last time?”

“No.” The Andorian grunted, gingerly testing his own jaw motion. “You’re just old.”

“You should both add more than weights to those, and you’re both out of practice. I’m adding mandatory combat training to both your schedules. Yes I can do that, don’t make me come find you.” She grinned like the thought amused her. “I’m busy enough.” She held a hand out to both of them. “Alright, up off the floor.
Before Bailey has a heart attack.” She chuckled softly.

Gadi, CoS

Zareth made a face, at once expressing displeasure and whimsy, somehow. “You know, that wasn’t combat… Oh forget it.” With that, he pushed himself up off the deck, pausing to make sure his prosthetic leg was undamaged. The leg looked normal enough, but in reality it held the sort of surprises that Gadi had suggested for the canes.

“Hey give me a break, I’m still recovering from a serious beat down by three Klingons and months in cryostasis.” He took the offered hand and gingerly got to his feet, the bad leg burned painfully and he grimaced before leaning on the biobed nearest him. “Besides I have a doctors note.”

He gave a grin and then pushing off from the biobed and leaning heavily on his cane he made for the bottles of booze, took one and poured three small measures of green liquid into three small beakers. The stuff was potent after all. He brought them back and offered them both to Tolar and Bethany then took his in one mouthful. His mouth burnt where the split was and he closed one eye and made a face as the alcohol went down.

Tolar took the proffered glass and immediately downed the contents without any sign of discomfiture. “Aldebaran whiskey… You always were a cheapskate.” His gruff voice seemed offended, but he shook the glass in the universal sign for “please-sir-can-I-have-some-more?” Then without another word, Zareth took up a nearby tissue regenerator and gave Ryley a knowing look and a nod to his split lip.

His dark eyes turned to Gadi next. “You aren’t wrong about the training. We’re rusty… Not that that’s a bad thing when you consider the good doctor and I didn’t mean to stay in this particular line of work…”
