Bethany looked at her concerned. “Are you sure?” They seemed minor, the small lacerations. “Hey what is it? I promise I’m not breaking the ship or your engines.” She grinned slightly, squeezing her hand carefully before letting go.Gadi
She nodded, wincing a little at the complaint from the abused flesh about the squeezing, but it was very minor. “I really don’t want to lose you. And I know we’re not there yet. But… I dunno what I would do if it came to that.” She took a deep shuddering breath and sighed, trying to look anywhere but at her. “I feel really selfish for saying that. And I can’t imagine how terrible it is for you. Especially with the nasty things that have been… said to you. I can’t imagine… ” She shook her head. turning her hands over, she gave Gadi’s a squeeze.
There were so many other things she needed to say. Wanted to say. Didn’t know how to say. Or what was actually true or not. Except what she’d already given voice.

Bethany shrugged, “Don’t worry about me. The irony sucks, but it will take more than my father’s bad genetics to stop me. We have a lot of work to do, and a dangerous mission ahead. So this will just have to wait its turn. We all have a limited time given to us. So we make the most of what we have. And I have more important things to worry about than this. I have to finish up with Jack and then training sessions on boarding techniques with the kids.” She grinned, “Don’t borrow trouble.”
Bethany seemed more herself. Miranda had done her a favor. Bethany didn’t have time to deal with this or indulge in pity or memory. Ryley would figure it out or not. It wasn’t Beth’s worry. She buried it and would deal later if ever. “I have to get this done. I could use the help, but I won’t keep you from your work.”
Gadi
“This is my work. Part of it anyway,” she said. While she wasn’t exactly a computer specialist, she was very well-rounded. And every physical object on the ship, inside it, or part of it it’s operation was her job and responsibility. Or at least her team’s responsibility. Which made it hers.
It didn’t take long for Bethany to get the program where she wanted it. Now it was time for testing before switching Jack over to the new program. “I’ve got side arm proficiencies to perform and then boarding techniques. If you’ve got any hints or tricks to use on that freighter I’d appreciate the insight. Starts at 1300. Then we can test Jack out if you want to join me. I have to be back in sickbay at 1730 though.”

“Well, can always do what they did on the Shamshir. Make the environmental controls pump the ship full of anesthesazine. Or just lower the oxygen levels until everyone passes out from hypoxia and then crank the oxygen levels back up afterward. Either way means a splitting headache. The latter risks brain damage for some. But its low, especially if they have a good medical team aboard. Gassing them means we can keep them down for however long. No need to fight. I’m sure you know how to run a lockout bypass on just about any door. Or put an override on a Padd. And if worse comes to worst, you can always just bang it with a puck. Though I dunno about the heavy security door on a cargo bay.” She pondered for a moment, then frowned. “What if you didn’t have to deal with a door at all?”
“I can rig up a micro-transporter that’ll just dematerialize the door. You just walk right through,” she offered. “Should work for anything you attach it to. Even with a transport inhibitor up.”
Martel, CE
Bethany had meant more technical/mechanical weaknesses in the design and build of the ship, but Miranda had good insights. “Oh I like the idea of a micro transporter. Save us from having to use explosives. Less damage and possible injuries.”
Gadi
“Right? i like it too. I’ll have something rigged up by the time we’re ready to hit them. As for the freighter… I still don’t have any data. I can’t plan for much without it. I can make assumptions. i can speculate. But… without anything concrete, it’s a little hard. Some things I can provide though. They build sturdy, tough. Their computer systems are stubborn too. Aesthetics are a secondary concern. If it works, it’s pretty to them.” She tapped a few commands into her PADD and began pulling up different schematics., and began a side-by-side comparison and started pointing out commonalities in design elements and theory.
Martel
Bethany leaned over to look rapidly taking notes onto her own PaDD and planning on which points she would incorporate into the training program and how. She would have to check with Blue about getting the schematics for the freighter. At least the base line anyway.
Gadi
Miranda studied the schematics as well, then frowned. She tapped into the ship’s sensor system. The Brazen had a low-resolution sensor range of 11 light years. Which meant their target was already within that margin. Unless they were traveling at higher than their maximum sustainable warp which was warp 9.0. Even then it was unlikely. Which means they had a sphere with a radius of only 8.3 light years. And less if they considered that they were already heading on an intercept course.
She queried the computer to show all detected vessels within a 45° cone ahead of the ship. Then cross reference those with the known ship registry for any that were Tellarite. Then pull up the details on any matching ships. They might not be within 3 light years for high resolution scanning, but Starfleet and most space-faring civilizations were pretty solid on record-keeping.
