Bethany looked at her concerned. “Are you sure?” They seemed minor, the small lacerations. “Hey what is it? I promise I’m not breaking the ship or your engines.” She grinned slightly, squeezing her hand carefully before letting go.

Gadi

She nodded, wincing a little at the complaint from the abused flesh about the squeezing, but it was very minor. “I really don’t want to lose you. And I know we’re not there yet. But… I dunno what I would do if it came to that.” She took a deep shuddering breath and sighed, trying to look anywhere but at her. “I feel really selfish for saying that. And I can’t imagine how terrible it is for you. Especially with the nasty things that have been… said to you. I can’t imagine… ” She shook her head. turning her hands over, she gave Gadi’s a squeeze.

There were so many other things she needed to say. Wanted to say. Didn’t know how to say. Or what was actually true or not. Except what she’d already given voice.

Martel

Bethany shrugged, “Don’t worry about me. The irony sucks, but it will take more than my father’s bad genetics to stop me. We have a lot of work to do, and a dangerous mission ahead. So this will just have to wait its turn. We all have a limited time given to us. So we make the most of what we have. And I have more important things to worry about than this. I have to finish up with Jack and then training sessions on boarding techniques with the kids.” She grinned, “Don’t borrow trouble.”

Bethany seemed more herself. Miranda had done her a favor. Bethany didn’t have time to deal with this or indulge in pity or memory. Ryley would figure it out or not. It wasn’t Beth’s worry. She buried it and would deal later if ever. “I have to get this done. I could use the help, but I won’t keep you from your work.”

Gadi

It didn’t take long for Bethany to get the program where she wanted it. Now it was time for testing before switching Jack over to the new program. “I’ve got side arm proficiencies to perform and then boarding techniques. If you’ve got any hints or tricks to use on that freighter I’d appreciate the insight. Starts at 1300. Then we can test Jack out if you want to join me. I have to be back in sickbay at 1730 though.”
