Against her better judgement, she opened her eyes and gazed up a him. “Moonshine. From my husband’s still back home. I’d introduce you to it, but I think ‘shine and I need a break from each other. And probably a much longer one that I’ve had in recent months.” A smirk tugged on the corner of her mouth. Yep, so far, no true regrets. Moonshine had a way of laying all the crap bare. What you did with it in the aftermath though was an entirely different conversation.

“I think ‘shine and you need an intervention. You should press assault charges.” He tapped away at the scan results. “Good news is I can probably save your vital organs. Bad news is I’m tempted to leave you with the headache as a lesson to you,”
He moved away across the bay and to a replicator.

MD“Oh, I’ve had a good lesson, don’t you worry. But in all fairness, I did the thing that was necessary for the success of our mission. Call it crew bonding time. You can thank me later,” Shara said, closing her eyes again. She was being honest, too. While it hadn’t been planned, it had helped in more than one way, including her own sense of well being. Sure, she felt like crap and she was still terrified of this mission going sideways as it most likely would but at least she hadn’t had to worry about sleep last night.

“ Thank you? For what? A half dozen randoms walking into my sickbay looking with the grim reaper couldn’t be bothered with the scythe and tried to bludgeon them to death using a boat oar instead? No thanks.”
“Suit yourself.”
He was back with a tall highball glass of sludge green…well sludge…with a stick of celery. Carefully, he placed it onto the tray and dropped in a large round white tablet. Immediately the ooze bubbled wildly then turned neon green. It was still frothing when he’s tired it with the celery and handed it to her. “Drink this. Don’t ask what it is…you don’t want to know.”

MDThe fizzing made her open one eye and she pushed herself slowly to a sitting position as he approached. And it was to her credit that though she eyed the drink that he proffered like it might jump out and bite her, she took it and began to drink it with nary a flinch. Even though it tasted like something that had been washed in dirty sock water and then regurgitated. But who knew if that was the drink itself or her abused tastebuds. Still, as an experienced covert operative, Shara Calloway was a phenomenal actress when she needed to be and thus gave him a pretty good grin and a thumbs up before she drank some more. She could ask questions but there were many times in a life like hers where the mantra really was No Questions Asked.
He returned it with a slight smirk.
“So how much fun was the meeting after I left?” she asked idly. She was curious if they had similar views on the nonsense.

Taking her wrist he checked her pulse as she drank. “Not as dramatic but not something I was much use in, I’m not exactly pirate material, the best I could do was wait for openings and insert random sarcastic comments . I did declare my new price list for treatment however, just so you’re aware because obviously you’ll be getting a bill shortly.” He released her wrist and walked back to the replicator.
He was back again hold a try with a smaller heavy bottomed glass, a bottle of balsamic vinegar glaze and an old pop can of soda water. Placing this onto the bio bed he poured a finger of the think brown glaze into the glass and then popped the can of soda water and poured that in top. Mixed it with a straw and offered her that.
“Now…drink this. “

At this she cocked an eyebrow. “Really? We’re pushing the ancient homemade remedy thing a little far, aren’t we? Couldn’t I just eat a salad later?” Her stomach wasn’t up to food but that wasn’t the point. Vinegar and soda water? Now that was pushing her a bit far. Strange that. Meanwhile, the drumming was still going on in her head and she closed her eyes briefly to still the extra sensory input.
