It was a strange feeling, being back on board a ship with people and noise. Ryley ignored the brief glances he received from one or two crew members and continued his leisurely wander. Since arriving aboard from his involuntarily convalescence onboard the Klingon ship he had felt himself needing to move about, despite how it made his bad leg burn. It revealed in the fact he had space to do so if he wished.
He found a space to stand a moment and rest his leg while watching the stars and the crew go by.
Ryley
MDIt was one of those nights, that were all too frequent. Bethany couldn’t sleep. Well she slept, she was tired, there was nothing overly pressing on her mind to keep her awake. Except the fact that a racing heart kept waking her up. No reason for it, she wasn’t nervous, she didn’t have nightmares, she hadn’t been exercising. Her heart just wouldn’t drop to a normal pace. She’d gone to medical about it, but was told by an overly judgmental Vulcan that her overactive Betazoid emotions were making her nervous and anxious - take a sedative. So she was out walking the corridors, again, forcing a slow leisurely pace and even slower deep breaths.
Gadi, CoS
He gave a quick glance at the woman as she entered the corridor but didn’t dwell on her for long. He turned back to the stars then stopped as something, he wasn’t sure what exactly, caught his attention about the woman he had so unceremoniously dismissed out of hand. He turned his head and watched her slow pace up the corridor.
Now that is interesting… he thought and turning back the way he had just came followed her.
He matched her pace fairly easily despite his leg and after a few seconds of walking by her side he caught her wrist. Wrapping his index and middle finger around the inside of it he counted and braced himself for the inevitable reaction.
Ryley
MDBethany rolled her eyes, at first as the recovered doctor followed her. Most of the crew got a kick out of trying to follow or sneak up on her or Calloway - never worked. She honestly thought this man would be above such things. Then he grabbed her. Bethany’s other hand came down over his, locking his grip in place, forearm and elbow pressed into his arm as she tugged him forward and spun outwards away from him, putting him in an arm bar, pulling him off balance, leaving him little choice but to follow or hurt his arm. “Really, doc, shouldn’t you know better?” Then she released him.
Gadi, CoS
As his arm was twisted he gave a small grimace of pain and struggled automatically to regain the footing in his good leg as she spun away and the arm bar pulled him. He staggered a step or so when she released him, blue eyes roving across her face questioningly. He didn’t answer her however and instead said. “Bit late to have been working out. Considering the time and the fact your not here for exercise given the fact I was able to keep pace it beggars the question what’s your deal.”
“I tend to walk the ship at all hours.” Bethany stated. It was the truth, she did. She just didn’t say why she walked the ship at all hours.
“Not really helping your case there sweetheart. Either you do it because you’re Uber keen on the job to the point some might consider paranoia or you’re having trouble sleeping. Either of those things could be a psychological issue which while interesting isn’t really my concern overall. You’d need the shrink for that…still..”
“A strong case can be made for both. However, we all need a shrink. Anyone who says otherwise is lying themselves.” Bethany was definitely paranoid when it came to Balthazar, and she was having trouble sleeping.
He pondered her, head tilted slightly to one side “Heart rate won’t go down? Even after you’ve cut the caffeine?”
Ryley
MDBethany crossed her arms and leaned one shoulder against the bulk head, crossed one ankle in front of the other foot resting on her toes, and gave the man a once over, “No and No.”
Gadi, CoS
“No and no it won’t go down and you tried cutting caffeine only for it to not work or no and no I’m wrong.” He asked.
Ryley
MD“No it won’t go down, and no cutting caffeine didn’t work. Yes I meditate, exercise regularly, no I’m not on any kind of drugs, prescribed or otherwise, and it’s replicator food. No I am not having panic attacks.”
Gadi, CoS
Ryley listened watching her. “Kool.” He said breaking out into a grin, his voice taking on an upbeat tone as if he genuinely did think this was one of the most interesting things he had come across.
He motioned for her wrist again, this time asking “do you mind?”
Ryley
MDSo glad he thought it was ‘kool’, but why not. It wasn’t like Bethany had anything else to do. “Tha’ depends. You a certified quack or an imposter? Then again that also depends on wha’ you’re going to do?” A slight Appalachian twang touched her voice, which was in contrast to what one would expect, taking into account her all black Betazoid eyes. She was scheduled to have them altered the next day. Her perpetual grin turned slightly wicked as she held her wrist out to him.
Gadi, CoS
Ryley tilted his head. “Certified quack.” He said and took the offered hand. Wrapping his fingers around her pulse point in her wrist. “Alex Ryley. MD, PhD, ChM, triple board certified…blah blah blah.” He said by way of introduction.
“Bethany Gadi. BS, MAS. And some above your clearance level.”
“Pfft,” he replied as if he didn’t really care about such things.
“As for what I’m going to do, I’d like to get a reading of your pulse again without the risk you might break my arm.” He smirked and let go of her wrist, he took a half step slightly closer to her and held up both his hands and the level of her neck, index and middle fingers on both hands extended. “Need to check your glands.” He said.
Ryley
MDBethany held one hand up in an ‘I surrender’ fashion. The other still racing a fast thumbing under his finger tips. She smirked at him and tilted her chin up slightly for him. “But, Doc, we just met.”
Gadi, CoS
He smirked again as his hands made contact, “ohh I’m going to like you.” He said and gently he began to palpate in small circles. He worked under her chin and along her jawline. “So…how long have you had a heart rate trying out for the Indy 500?”
Ryley
MDBethany didn’t quite chuckle because the man’s fingers were manipulating around her throat. “The sentiment’s mutual.” So many of the crew were just too serious at the moment. “A month after I came on board. Went and saw the doc. She told me I was nervous and to learn to meditate. I told her to check my adrenaline levels. Bet you can guess the result.”
Gadi, CoS
“Adrenaline levels were normal on scans.” He muttered partly in answer to her, partly to himself it seemed. His icy blue eyes had taken on a far off look as he finished checking her glands. He completely ignored the passing NE who gave one quizzical look at the pair and then quickly glanced away walking away with a determined stride as if to say nothing to see here…carry on.
Focusing on her again he dropped his hands and said “Any fevers, weight loss?” While he patted his pockets, looking for something on his person. Whatever he was looking for wasn’t there apparently and he sighed deeply as if this was the most inconvenient thing imaginable.
“No fevers, and maybe some weight loss. I don’t exactly weigh myself daily, Doc, but an increased exercise routine can do that. Of course that didn’t last long” She had to do something if she wasn’t sleeping, but that solution hadn’t lasted because that didn’t make her heart rate go down.
“Damn…no tricorder and no stethoscope. Bloody Klingons.” He muttered again. “Can I tempt you to visit sickbay? Or somewhere with a replicator so I can get some equipment.” He asked
Ryley
MD“Well that leaves you two options, the Mess Hall or Sickbay. But the mess hall seems rather public.” Bethany waved down the corridor to the nearest left, “So why don’t you tempt away.”
Gadi, CoS
“After you.” Ryley said stepping back and turning. He leaned on his cane a moment and set off back towards where he thought sickbay was at.
“Any other symptoms? And any treatments not revolving around breathing exercises and meditation?”
One of his recently healed ribs gave a pull and he made a slight face as they continued.
Ryley
MD
Bethany shook her head, “I am surprisingly healthy and minimal injuries considering my profession.” She pressed the call button and then stepped into the lift. “Possibly a headache. I have a burning headache. My head feels like it’s burning and being scalped, and then it’s gone. I thought it was from the lack of solid sleep instead of a symptom.”
