As the shuttle team exited and made their way to the hatch, the storm raged around them but near them. Soon, the hatch opened and a ladder led down into darkness.Inside the Klingon ship, all was quiet. And dark. And cold. It served as a reminder of just how fragile life was in space. As they made their way through the darkened passages, signs of the life that had once been a part of the ship were all around. Bodies sat or lay frozen solid at stations or tables… on beds or in chairs… all Klingons. It was then the Security officer held up clenched fist, the sign for everyone to halt. “Contact. Power signature, Lieutenant Martel. But it’s… weird. And really faint.”
The scanner on the arm of the Security Ensign did indeed show a power source, but it was very faint and fluctuating as if it was beginning to power down. The signal came from the medical section.

Nurse Bailey looked at her own readouts and then watched the team, waiting for directions. She hadn’t anticipated needing to do much more than assist if anyone on their side was injured…and she wasn’t sure her Klingon anatomy wasn’t a tad rusty.

MedComing to a quick halt and scanning the area, Vidreg then checked his own scans against the schematic to confirm the NEs readings. “Looks like it’s coming from medical. I don’t like separating a team this small, Lt., But it’s your call,” he said to Martel. “If medical had a power source still running there was probably a reason why. Either to keep something alive or contained if main power went out. Did we bring any back up power, just in case?” He hated to have such a doomsday outlook, but too much was weird and dangerous around this nebula.

Doing as he was told, Paddy double checked the seals on his mag boots and stepped off the shuttle, almost instantly feeling the artificial gravity weighing him to the ground around them. Paddy made sure to keep an eye out for any distressed members of the station’s crew, but couldn’t see much due to the lack of lighting.

Miranda considered for a moment. They had sarium-krellide power sources in their weaponry, but they weren’t great for anything more than temporary power. If they’d taken one of the Azzie’s shuttles they could have hooked it’s power plant into whatever failing system was in medical. But the station shuttle? That was alien to her. The station people might know more about it. “We just have our toolkits, suit systems, and the power packs in our phasers and such. Nothing like what you have in mind. We might see if we can get their power plant up and running. We’ve got to hit engineering anyway, so…” She gestured for them to proceed. “Once we figure out that, we can figure out our next steps. Though now I’m wishing we’d brought a mini generator or at least a micro fusion reactor.”

((So sorry for the delay y’all. Been under the weather, and unable to write. Didn’t think I’d need an LOA, but probably should have taken one. Many apologies. - Sam H.))
Ridad nodded with an easy smile and confidence, “You’re the boss.” He looked back at the ensign and waved him forward and then back at the team at the rear of the group. “You heard the Chief, Engineering it is. Let’s move, and stay together.” Ridad moved forward, his eyes scanning and rifle ready. If there was still power that could mean a very angry and very disoriented Klingon or more might take them for hostiles.

Inside her helmet Bailey clicked her tongue. If someone was in medical it was possible they were hurt or injured and if power there failed…the nurse didn’t like the idea that they had potentially let someone go unaided. She opened her mouth but then considered they had no way of know what it was or a way to power any life support systems…engineering was their best bet. she’s sighed and followed on.

MedPaddy stuck to Bailey where he could, “Nurse Bailey, if you’d like, you and I can do a runaround, see if we can find anyone that might need our help.”

Ridad heard the counselor, “No one splits up till we sweep the ship, Lt. SOP. If it becomes necessary to do so, NE Hestion will go with you. But trust me, if there’s hurt, hungry, and irritable Klingons on board, you really don’t want to meet them in the dark with the power off. Allies or not. I promise to get you there as soon as possible.” Hestion was a big guy, bulging muscles and an expert in zero G hand to hand combat, it’s why Ridad had pulled him for this assignment. Something wasn’t quite right out here. Maybe it was the station or the nebula chipping away at Ridad, but one didn’t survive as a security officer in Star Fleet without listening to their gut.

The comms in their suits crackled to life and the voice of their pilot could be heard. =/\= I see y’all heading to main engineering. Solid. Go slow. And remember… the nebula is gonna smack that wreck around like a Bolian pinata if you power it up. Just get your cloaking device and come back. =/\=
It was at that same moment that, as they got just close enough, the readings in the Medical Section became more clear and showed a single, faint life sign…
A human one.
GM
“Fair point, Lieutenant.” Paddy conceded. It was only after the com channel closed that McMillan took note of the faint pinging sound coming from his tricorder. Glancing down at it, he took a moment to process what it meant. Instinctually, he held up a hand, “Anyone else getting that life sign up ahead or do I need a new tricorder?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Ridad looked down at the readout on his bracer. “Lt Martel. There is definitely a life sign coming from the medical bay. A Human life sign.” Which was strange because even though the Federation and Klingon Empire were allies, humans sometimes would take passage on a Klingon vessel, through the empire, but they rarely served, unless this was a rogue ship. “We can’t power up the ship, unless we want to get eaten.” Laughter tinged his voice. It wouldn’t be the strangest thing that had happened. “Which first, cloak or the life sign?”
NL Vidreg
“Primary objective first,” Miranda called out. “We’re on a covert op, so it’s F.I.D.O. unless it’s convenient. We’ll try to get to them though. Let’s make it quick,” she said. “I guess main power is out of the question.” Pulling out her own tricorder, she started taking readings of the existing ship and what it’s power readouts were like. In her head she started doing the math to estimate how long they had and how long they would need to get to that lifesign after getting the cloak.
Vidreg nodded then pointed to Hestion and made a ‘let’s go’ motion. He turned to Mezanque in the rear of the good, who nodded and then they began moving again.
“Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Doors and corners kids. Go into a room too fast, the room eats you,” she warned. This was a derelict. They didn’t detect any other lifesigns so far. But that didn’t mean jack. There could be an angry klingon with a disruptor anywhere in here. Sensors weren’t exactly reliable in the nebula. Reminding them of their basic room clearing procedures and certifications, common even for non-security, was an opportunity to possibly keep them alive.
Vidreg grinned through his helmet at Martel, “Yeah yeah okay Detective Miller. You just stay in the center of the group with everyone else.”
Moving with their escort, using bounding movements to get toward the engineering section, they pressed on.. in the dark, the space lit only by the cold blue-white beams of their search lights and weapon lights, a layer of frost over most everything. Her breathing was loud in her ears, trapped in the confines of her helmet. She fought the urge to pop her lid and scrub her fingers through her hair. The little trickle of sweat at the small of her back was a niggling little annoyance.
Lt Martel, CE
Vidreg and the rest of the team moved with smooth steady precision. They knew what they were doing, checking each junction, door, corner for anyone or anything hostile while getting them as quickly through the Klingon ship as possible. With any luck they would get to the cloaking device in a few more junctions and be able to move on.
NL Ridad
The ship was empty of life. Room by room, passage by passage, they moved slow and smooth through the derelict vessel. Soon they found themselves in the Engineering section. The normally bustling and noisy space was quiet… dark… and cold. Their goal, the cloaking device, was housed in a secure compartment adjacent to the warp core. With no power to the ship, the door had been sealed with duterium bolts inside the top and bottom of the doors.
GM
Nurse Bailey shivered as she followed the group. During training at the academy there had been a scenario task in a holodeck like this. A friend who had completed it the week previously had warned her that ‘something’ would happen. Zombie Cardassians was not what she had assumed would happen. She had nightmares for weeks. She shivered again.

((I’m gonna continue on for the moment under the assumption that James meant Duranium rather than deuterium which is ionized water))
Miranda studied the doors and whistled softly in appreciation. Klingon engineering wasn’t pretty, but it was tough. Federation designs like to over-engineer, build in redundancies, and also built tough. But Klingons wanted to make sure their equipment was always tougher than they were. With a sigh she looked around. Ideally they could bypass the doors, but with the bolts locked in, they couldn’t open them without a power source with enough juice to release the locking bolts and then crank the doors themselves open. A phaser rifle could probably do it, but would it piss off the stuff in the nebula?
Best not to tempt fate.
Options. Options. They could cut into the bulkhead at top and bottom and cut the bolts there, sheering them off flush with the door and then pry the doors open. ORRRR~ … they could try to cut through the door itself. Doable. But it would be slow. The other option was to either go back outside or find a different bulkhead to cut in through and come at the door backward.
Mentally she went through the equipment list they had. Laser torches and plasma torches, as well as phasers. Plenty to work with. As well as several other engineering tool kits. They could cut through tritanium too. Duranium would be no problem.
“Okay, let’s get these panels open,” she said, pointing above the door, and then at the floor grating. Once those were cleared away, she pulled out a laser cutter and made her way over to the bottom bolts and began inspecting them and the surrounding area, looking for any signs of tamper circuits or other devices that might trip them up and cause a problem.
Lt Martel, CE
Bailey hung back while those with the expertise to open the panels could do so.
