Sara was holding her combadge, twirling it in her fingers. “I know no one outside the ship will ever know what happened, all will be forgiven, it’ll all go back to normal… but I feel like a criminal. Hiding out, making plans with shady individuals…” she trailed off for a second. “When Special Projects called and said they needed our assistance, of course I agreed. But when I got my fourth pip, this isn’t where I thought it’d take me.” She straightened up and reaffixed her combadge. “I appreciate what both of you are doing. These are extraordinary times. You’ll both get medals when we return to normal if I have to make them myself. Keep an eye on Elias, and our spies on loan. I don’t want us to be out of the loop at any point.”

Bethy looked at Shara and grinned, a short laugh coming out. Medals? Medals weren’t for people like them. That would mean someone had to acknowledge what they had done. No,at most, their legend might survive as oral tradition to scare new agents. “Well, glad I slept good last night because I won’t be sleeping again until this is over.” Whenever Gadi had her quarters to herself again she would go over every surface Elias came into contact with. Just because she was paranoid didn’t mean it easy justified.

Shara quirked an eyebrow at the medal part of said nothing. Instead, she was reflective. When she looked up at Kiernan, there was a worn expression. “Full disclosure, but I’m not doing so great. But I’ve been in worse situations for much longer and I know how to get through. But if the situation changes at any time, Captain, I’ll let you know. Though I’m fully aware nothing short of our mission being over will actually be acceptable or useful. I… just thought you should know.”

“Duly noted Commander.” Sara wanted for a second to pry, but thought better of it. “Feel free to call on me anytime.”

It was the best they could do under the circumstances. And for now all Shara could do was her job and hope they all made it out intact. In some form. Adjusting the phaser rifle on her shoulder, Shara winked at Bethy. “I’m going to go look menacing about the corridors for a bit. Call me when you want the backup.”

And with that, Calloway stepped out of Gadi’s quarters and into the fray that was a psychological nightmare for her. Ahh well, just another day on the job and all.
