The news should have relieved her, but it didn’t. And there were all sort of things she could say, but hadn’t she already told two other people these things? It should have been Micah, and yet, she knew she couldn’t have been in the same room with him just then. Chin dropped slightly, her gaze was on his shirt as she periodically blinked. her lips moved, shifting shape to form sounds, but no words were uttered. She had spent time thinking over what to say to him but none of it seemed right. None of it made sense or encompass how she felt.
She gazed downwards for a ver long time (ages it felt to her) before she finally murmured a few precious words: “You should have warned me.”

Micah put his arms around her but still let her have her space and said “Yeah… I should have. But I had to choose… tell the girls or tell you. I opted for the girls because I knew I’d be here with you. And I knew you’d be able to process it hitting you cold better than they would. Sorry, Sha… I’m still new to this whole ‘family’ thing.” and he took a deep breath and sighed. “Listen… if this is too much, let’s call it. I’ll have ‘em send someone else. Hell, who knows? Maybe they’ll come up with somethin’ better. I dunno. But you say the word, and I pull the plug. That’s the best I can do, Sha…”
Micah
Pulling back, Shara finally lifted her head and stared at him. There was shock and hurt etched into her features and finally she found her words. She stepped away from him, shaking her head. “Don’t you get it?! I am in an impossible position. AGAIN! And now you’re trying to add to that? Do you hear yourself? I, the decorated Intelligence agent for nineteen years, is supposed to tell a major asset to the mission to not be here so she doesn’t have yet another person to worry about? She’s supposed to tell him to get off the ship even though him being here might be the one thing that keeps her from going entirely insane in a situation that is triggering everything? Is that what you’re asking me?! And I am not* processing this better, Micah. I am struggling to keep myself together because there are a lot of people counting on me to be okay!” She was positively vibrating with the stress of it all.

Micah looked at her for a moment through narrowed eyes. It was obvious he was pissed… but his words were calm, even… and sincere. “Add to it? I’m not trying to add to s#!+. And you aren’t in an impossible situation… you have the option to leave if you want, just like the rest. Hell, you want me to leave? Tell me. I’ll go. But if you do that, then you have to go too… and for the same damn reason. You think I relish having my wife on board for this? I know you are freaking out right now, Sha… but you gotta see that you aren’t the only one feeling this. And its damn selfish of you to think so.” and he turned and went to the couch, on which sat one of his bags. He rummaged around inside and brought out a jar, unscrewed the lid, and took a large drink.
Micah
No matter how many times she told people the stories about how the decisions where made in her life, she knew that it would never fully be understood. And that had never been much of a problem until now. “I never said no one else was was struggling,” she said quietly. The anger hadn’t disappeared but she as she stood there, hands planted on her hips, Shara felt tired. Unbelievably tired. “This is my Kobayashi Maru. Again. I’ve had several of them already, but this is the first one Pickle that I’m not certain I can bounce back from.”

“And this is the first one that you aren’t going into either blind, alone, or both. Try and give me some credit, Sha… You should know that I would never… ever… put you in a no-win situation. And you should also know that of anyone you know… I am absolutely the most devious when it comes to getting my way. And my way is everyone coming back from this… well, everyone except the Shadow Syndicate.” and he grinned slightly.

Hands still planted on her hips, Shara’s head bowed, shoulders sinking with weariness. “In the conference room? The flashback? I was getting Faye to the shuttle so she could get free. She was drugged out of her mind, Micah. I had to get her to a place where she could function enough to fly to safety and I knew once the shuttle left, she had to do it all on her own. I couldn’t do anything else to help her.” She shook her head, eyes closed and directed to the floor. “The nightmares and flashbacks began the night I slipped out of the facility and took refuge with a sympathizer of the Reunification Movement. The woman was the one who helped me get messages back and forth to my uppers. Twice she was so worried about me, she tried to wake me from the nightmares and I mistook her for someone trying to hurt Faye. I was surprised she didn’t kick me out of her house, but she seemed to understand a bit. But I guess when you’re whole society goes to shit you know a thing or two about trauma. Whole swathes of Romulan society were in desperate straights and here was the Tal Shiar going about things as if they still had any control over it.” She opened her eyes but they couldn’t focus on any one thing, blurred with tears. “I don’t know how to keep it all at bay. I felt that control slip in the conference room and it feels so hard to find again. And that makes me a liability and I don’t know what to do about it.”
