“Commander,” Paddy said rising slowly, “It woul be my pleasure,” he extended a hand.-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Bethany took his extended hand as a gesture to proceed him. She walked towards the doors and out of the mess, slowing her pace for him to come even with her as she turned left and then unto the turbolift and down to deck 7. “Not much to see on a ship with only 7 decks, but it let’s us stretch our legs a bit.” And of course without even trying, Bethy was aware of patrols, who was where and what they were doing, the feel of the ship and speed it was going. All information her senses collected and filed for when it was needed. “What about you, Paddy? What’s something you’ve carried from your childhood into your career?”
Gadi, CoS
Paddy retracted his hand, She really is nervous about commitment. Answering her question, he added, “Aside from being a rather weak pianist, not much of note really. What about yourself?”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
“Ah but do you enjoy the piano? That is what is important.” Bethy considered the question and shrugged. “I have a few items in my parents home that are significant, but I can’t take them with me. Mostly I brought the wisdom of my uncles’ phrased tidbits with me. And a love for the peace of a walk after a good meal.”
Gadi, CoS
‘I use to when I was a lad,’ Paddy replied thoughtfully, ‘Maybe I should get back into it? So, what sort of phrased tidbits would they be?’
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
“You should always make time, even a small amount, for the things you enjoy. If you enjoy piano then do something about it.” Bethy thought for a moment. What were her favorite sayings? The ones that really stuck with her? “‘You can’t move mountains by whispering at them’ (Pink). ‘Not how long but how well you have lived is the main thing’ (Seneca). ‘It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves’ (Edmund Hillary). ‘Fill you life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show.’ (Unknown)”

Paddy chuckled lightheartedly, “I feel as if I should be taking notes, your Uncle seems like an incredibly wise man.”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Bethy laughed. “Uncles. Three of them, my mother’s brothers. They take great pride in passing down what they call ‘the old mountain wisdom.’ Live simpler, live slower. Michevious old men too. They take everything in stride until there is a joke to pull.”
Gadi, CoS
“Reminds me of me da,” Paddy grinned, “We were really close, we’d often sing together during the time we were working on the farm.”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
As they finished a lap of deck 7 they cam back to the turbolift and Bethy pressed the call button and they took the lift to deck 6. “What did you sing?”
Gadi CoS
“Normally old Irish folk music, ‘O Danny Boy’ and the like.” Paddy began silently whistling the melody, just loud enough for Gadi to hear.
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
She listened while he whistled and they walked. “What about…no that’s not Irish. Oh what about Whisky in the Jar?” She hummed a few notes, but musically inclined, Bethy was not.
Gadi, CoS
“Good old Captain Farrell,” Paddy chuckled, then began singing the first verse, gaining a bit of a bounce in his step.
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
Bethy walked along a grin on her face. Paddy had a decent voice and a playful personality. “I’m sure that song has all kinds of lessons we should learn, but the tune is catchy.” Deck 6, compared to Deck7, was busy with engineers and ops officers and sickbay. People going in and out for physicals, injuries, illnesses, routine treatments. Bethy wove around them, taking side corridors that were less busy, coming back out past the crowds. Their path seemed to be random without direction, but she always managed to bring them back to their original path. On a ship like Asimov that wasn’t so strange, but she’d been on board less than 24 hours. “Where to next?”
Gadi, CoS
Giving a warm nod to the engineers working around the deck, Paddy grinned and said, “Well, which part of the ship haven’t you seen yet? I’m no expert, but I’m happy tto help where I can.”
-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-
“Asimov is only 7 decks. I wouldn’t be worth much in my position if I wasn’t already familiar with her. Unless you want to go crawling around the Jefferies tubes? But personally, I’m not feeling up for that kind of hike at the moment. Where’s your favorite place in the ship?”
