Nadine chuckled to herself as she had already gotten dressed and was brushing out her hair. She popped into the house just as Shara was traipsing down the stairs. “Morning!” she greeted.

Shara groaned from upstairs. “Oh no, she’s a morning person,” she grumbled loudly as she got herself dressed herself in cargo pants and a t-shirt and was moving about in barefeet. She had pondered changing into her casual ‘uniform’ for her meeting, but decided it wasn’t worth the effort. She had met with these people in all sorts of situations and most of the time she hadn’t been in a duty uniform. They’d just have to suck it up.

Nadine moved into the kitchen smiled at Micah. “Yep! But I won’t say no to good coffee though.”

Soon enough, Shara stepped lightly down the stairs as she twisted an elastic around her hair in a messy bun. Nadine watched her with a keen gaze and smiled softly. “Faye called me last night. Apparently she had some prompting,” Nadine said, flicking her gaze at Micah for a moment. “It was good. She’s… overwhelmed, but she explained her mental health struggles, which I wasn’t expecting, but I think it made it easier to be more frank. We’ll definitely be talking more. And she invited me to her wedding, but I told her I’d think about it. I don’t want to rush this process,” she said as she looked around. “Though maybe it’s too late for that?”

Micah chuckled as he rummaged through the kitchen and started getting things to make for breakfast. “Oh no… you’re going. Unless the next few days become a complete shit-show, you are going. So just put it on tha calendar and get yer dancin’ shoes ready. Should be a hell of a party.” and he chuckled. He then paused and looked at Nadine. “Oh, a’fore Sha’s meeting. You go over to that desk and call yer folks. I’m sure they’re worried about how you are doing in San Francisco.” and he stressed the last words quite plainly.

“Already was planning on it,” Nadine said with a wink before turning her attention back to Shara. “You okay with me coming? It has occurred to me that since you didn’t tell anyone about the pregnancy except my birth father, that it’ll be news for a lot of other people. I don’t want to force you to do things you’re not ready for.”

Fingers wrapped around the thick-walled mug, Shara shook her head. “No, don’t worry about that. This is something I need to do. It’s been… long enough. And I have to call my brother anyway, so I might as well explain the rest of the context for why I left Midos. Maybe it will help, or maybe he still thinks I’m a horrible person.” She shrugged. “But that my baggage, Nadine, not yours.”

“Ours… not yours, wife.” Micah said without turning around. Something began to fill the house… an aroma. Buttery, sweet, hints of vanilla… maybe caramel?… and the sound of something sizzling came from the stove. “Sha, set the table, don’t set the plates on fire. Nadine… top shelf, far right cabinet. Glass jar shaped like a rooster. Bring it down and heat it up for twenty seconds. Then pour it in a bowl and throw a good helpin’ of butter in it ta melt it, please and thank you.”
