Micah watched her closely, looking for any hint of deceit. There were none, and no one was that good. He smiled at her and said “Okay. But you’ve kept looking. Records show that. So…” and he leaned forward and crossed his arms on the table, “What do your parents think of your search? Are they supportive?”

Nadine nodded. “They were always up front about me being adopted. I was almost six when they first told me and explained how it all worked. I also asked them if it would be okay if I looked her up when I was of finally of age to do so. I didn’t want to hurt them, though I think my mother took it harder at first than she wanted to admit. But as I looked for things and turned up clues and then dead ends, they were there for me. When I learned about what the Dominion did, well, not I’m not too proud to say I cried for three days straight. Even if it wasn’t her, it was just… unfathomable, you know?”
Leisha swung by and set the cup of coffee down on the table and after thanking her, Nadine took a sip. “It was my dad who suggested maybe there wasn’t anything to be found and asked if I could live with that. I didn’t know for a long time, but every now and again I’d get that strange feeling again that I should keep searching. I stopped telling them about it years ago though. Enough was enough. I am their daughter and I didn’t want to hurt them more.” This man knew something about Shara. No two ways about it. Maybe he could tell her how she died for certain. But she was patient and she channelled all her teaching skills into waiting for whatever it was he wanted to say to her.

Micah caught the glimmer of realization. Oh yeah… She’s got Sha’s ability to read people. he thought to himself. He smiled and leaned closer. “So… as I’m sure you are aware by now, I know about your mom. In fact…” and he locked his eyes onto hers and stared at her the way only he could… the way that locked suspects and other agents down and refused to let them look away.
So curious to know where this was going and to know what he knew, Nadine gazed back openly and unafraid. Just tell me! she thought. She could handle it. Right?
“I know your mother. I saw her not two hours ago. She’s currently buying a piano. Do you play?”
Pikelsimer
Whatever was going to come out of his mouth, that was not it. Her lips moved to say something and her brow furrowed just like Faye’s and Shara’s when they were puzzled. Words did not come out.
Micah grinned at the look.
It took a few moments and a deep breath for her to even form sounds. “What do you mean, you know her? Okay, she’s alive. That was always possible, but you said you were with Federation Security. I don’t get it.” Nadine shook her head. “Piano? She plays…” she whispered.

“I mean I know her. And yeah she plays. Guitar, too. And can sing. Her name now is… well… let’s hold up on that for a sec. I need you to tell me what it is you want to do now. Do you want to talk to her? Meet her? Get to know her? I mean, I bet she’d actually really like that. But I need to know from you that you aren’t out to punish her for the past. I can understand that you may be angry that she gave you up. And that can be something the two of you work through together. But you gotta know that that choice is perhaps the single hardest choice that woman made in a lifetime of hard choices. And I’m here to see if you want to know her, not crucify her. She’s had enough pain… she doesn’t need any more. But I can tell you this… she is one of the most amazing people I have ever known. You’d be really lucky to know her, too. And I’d be happy to help. But only if this is a good thing for both of you. So… where do you want to go from here? Because this is where we decide what happens next, you and I. We move forward with the best of intentions… or you have a nice lunch and I walk out and you never hear from me again and I make sure you don’t find anything else about her than what you have right now. But that… I leave up to you.”
Pikelsimer
Her reply was nearly instantaneous as he finished speaking, her mind already working through his words as fast as e was speaking them. “Oh no! I’m not out to hurt her. I’m not exactly a kid anymore. I’ve lived long enough to understand people have to do things they don’t always want to do or maybe she really did, that it wasn’t for her. But… Michael, is it? All I’ve ever wanted was to hear it from her. To understand where I came from. I have a good life but it’s been hard too. I have my own hurts so I would never dump more on someone whose been through it the way you say she has. I’m in. Except you haven’t told me if that’s what she wants. Is that why you’re here?”

Micah took a long moment and then said “She doesn’t know I’m here. And it’s Micah, not Michael. Gimme a sec, will you? I’ll be right back.” and he stood up and walked out and stood outside the window by the table Nadine was seated at.
She knew it! Nadine couldn’t explain it (like most of her hunches) but she wasn’t buying his name as being Micheal. Though it wasn’t far off, so what did she knew, right?
He pulled his communicator and called Shara. He waited as the connection was made.
Micah
Her stroll had been leisurely and after grabbing something to eat and more coffee, Shara was lounging on the sofa reading. The alert made her head pop up and she frowned for a moment. They hadn’t thought to discuss her answering calls, especially since precious few people knew exactly where she was right now. But on the off chance it was urgent, she moved over to Micah’s comm unit and opened the connection. “Go for Big Cabin,” she said, smirking to herself. If it was anyone who knew anything at all, they’d not be too confused.
