A small chuckle rumbled in her throat and she shook her head. She was amused to no end. “I requested a duty assignment and this is where they put me. they put us both here for a reason but you have to admit it’s a little funny that they placed two former covert agents onto a ship with a tiny crew who aren’t quite used to playing nice with the rest of the class.”
Bethany nodded, “I agree, it makes me....edgy…I think is the best descriptor. And the thing is I’m not really ‘former’ this is just where they thought would be best for me in the mean tie. It certainly makes me curious what they have in plan for the Asimov to put us both here.” With her own unique mentorship and Calloway’s obvious success, one had to wonder what Intel was up to.
Shara laughed more as she sat back in her seat. “It’ll be a day at a time thing for sure. But do know that as I need to be I’m incredibly frank. I don’t stand on ceremony and if someone is irking me, they’ll know about it sooner rather than later. How about we do the thing they trained out of us and operate from here on out with an open dialogue?”
Commander Calloway, CIO
Bethany grinned, “I can be the same way when needed. My seeming lack of respect, especially for rank, has gotten me into trouble a few times. There are times that protocol is necessary and times to throw it out the airlock.” Then she really laughed, “Open dialogue…I’m not sure I remember how.” Bethany grew quiet and regarded Calloway for a very long time. It wasn’t in an operatives nature to trust or share oddities about one’s self, but Bethany had a feeling they were going to be working more closely together than they realized, so Open dialogue....”Open dialogue, I’ll start. You’ll read in my file, and my eyes give it away, I’m 1/2 Betazoid. As far as that goes I’m considered disabled. For all intents and purposes my telepathy/empathy is broken and doesn’t exist. It is something that will never be an asset or for me or those I work with.”

“So not thinking really hard at you in a crisis as a solution to a problem. Got it,” Shara said with a nod. “As for me, I have, and I’m not ashamed to admit this, PTSD from my last op. It’s long and complicated and maybe later I’ll feel up for sharing the details, but suffice to say it was under control until recently and now I’m back to trying to actively manage it. The PTSD means I’m benched. No more field work. I asked for a regular duty assignment and they sent me here. Which makes sense for me, given tidbit Number Two. I was Maquis back in the day and I was on the Voyager during the Delta Quadrant years. Small ships are what I know.” Wow, she had to admit that that was a lot of disclosure. Damn Micah and his sharing and crap. he was rubbing off on her too much.
Commander Calloway, CIO
Bethany nodded recognizing the amount of disclosure Calloway was giving her and it was also a promise it wouldn’t go past her office. No one got out of intel without some degree of PTSD. Bethany was honestly surprised she wasn’t showing signs of it already. “I’ve actually been working on this program that will allow you to flip a switch on your combadge and tap out a message in Morse code to others in your party.”
Gadi, CoS
Calloway nodded. “Nice thing to have around. I will admit to having a few of my gadgets around but I will miss all the standard issue stuff they give us. I have to requisition it now,” she said, scowling, despite the humour in her eyes.
Blowing out a breath -almost a sigh- Shara shrugged. “It’s weird. I was doing an investigation the last couple years, and it’s been the longest I’ve been myself in a very long time. I’m so used to having a cover story that sometimes I have to stop and double-check that the detail I’m sharing is in fact true!”
Commander Calloway, CIO
“I can understand that. I keep waiting to be contacted with details of my next assignment. But if you want gadgets…I’ve got gadgets.” Bethany waled over to a corner bulkhead placed her palm to it and there was a snuck and the panel opened. “I always keep extras. You’re welcome to your pick. First rule of computers, have a back up.”
Gadi CoS“Faaantastic!” Shara said with a gleam in her eyes. “See, I knew we’d get along great. I also don’t mind having some contingency plans that we keep on the down-low and share with the others only as needed. Our mission profile means we’re likely to get into a scrape or two more often than not, so I say we create ourselves some solutions to problems ahead of time. That way our execution under pressure will be flawless.”
Commander Calloway, CIO
“I’d have more but my shuttle had to return to whence it came. And I am ALL for contingency plans. I think first is a means of communication. I’ll work on finalizing that Morse code program and then we can try it out. See how well it works. If we have to use covert plans it’s all for naught if we have to announce it over the comm system.” Bethany hadn’t missed Calloway saying she was on Voyager. T’Jal, Jake, F’actar had all been on Voyager for a very short period when their ship had been sent to the Delta to make contact with Voyager. She didn’t know if Calloway was familiar enough with the crew of the Dresden/Mako but if she had worked with them, she would recognize special tweaks F’actar had made to the equipment.
