“Computer, time?” Lieutenant Patrick McMillan ran the sharp razor down his chin, being careful not to nick himself while he watched in the mirror. Paddy hadn’t been on a proper date since his days at Starfleet Academy. A fellow training psychologist, Simone LaRosa, had dated Paddy for around three months before they realised they wanted different things. Well… at least that’s what she’d told him, the young Irishman had heard rumours from her close friends about her sleeping with a junior Andorian professor on loan to the Academy for about a week before they split. The connection McMillan felt with Commander Gadi was the first time he had built up the confidence to take things a step further than a working friendship. Thus, he was even more determined to make this work.

“The time is 1645 hours,” the Computer replied cooly. Better to be early than late, Paddy mused. Putting the finishing touches to his clean shave, the Counsellor towelled himself off and made for his wardrobe to find his smart casual wear he had used since the Academy; he’d made sure to have it freshly pressed for this evening. Straightening himself and checking his hair in the mirror, he picked up the two bottles he’d intended to take as gifts to the Commander’s quarters and made for the turbolift.

When he arrived at Gadi’s quarters, Paddy took a deep calming breath and clicked the door chime.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethany got off duty at exactly 1700. It didn’t take her long to make it from her office on Deck 4 to her quarters on Deck 3. She lucked out, the other department head she shared the washroom with wasn’t using it, so she took advantage and claimed the sonic shower for herself. It had been awhile since Bethany had been on an actual date. She’d spent plenty of time with guys she found attractive, and there was lots of good natured, relaxed flirting, but nothing serious. And usually those encounters were totally by accident and random, in brief moments between work. But there was definitely something different about Paddy.

With that thought Bethany stepped out of the shower, grabbed her brush and made quick work of brushing out the knots created from falling hair and crawling around Jeffries tubes and access hatches all day. Leaving her hair down, she pinned the sides up to keep it out of her face. She was reaching into her closet when the chime sounded. It was 1710. It had better be good, she didn’t want to have to cancel on Paddy, but if she had to… “Just a minute!” her mountain/Scottish lilt rang out.

Donning a pleated emerald green knee length skirt with a soft cream knit camisole, she stepped into black flats. She pulled on her high waisted black leather jacket and attached her combadge. Pulling her hair out from under the collar of her jacket she pressed the control with her other hand to open the door. “What can…Paddy!” He was early, which was fine with her, and he came to pick her up rather than meeting her there. The thought made her smile. “Do you want to come in? I warn you it’s not much to look at, I haven’t unpacked yet.”

“Then consider these a… quarters warming present.” Paddy gave a cheeky grin and slid two bottles from behind his back. The bottle in his left hand was a decanter of 2354 Irish Caramel Whiskey, the bottle in his right had a label stuck to it that read ‘Forgrave’s Brew, Only the Best’.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethany smiled as he produced the first bottle but the second brought a huge smile to her face. She waived him inside. She stared at the bottle of Forgrave’s Brew. “Paddy that must have cost you a fortune in favors. Thank you.” She grinned at him, “So does this mean you’re making me an Irish coffee?”

“I’m a man of my word Bethy,” Paddy winked. Stepping over to the replictor, Paddy ordered a black coffee with a small glass of milk and brought it over to the table. Looking up at the CoS, Paddy poured a shot of the caramel whiskey into the full cup and added the milk last, stirring it together with a small spoon he kept in his pocket. “See what you think,” the Irishman said, gliding the glass over to his date for the evening.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Bethy leaned a hip against the desk, crossing one ankle in front of the other. She picked up the glass and blew gently across the surface before taking a sip. She closed her eyes savouring a second taste. “Mmmm.” She grinned, “That is very good. Smooth and has a bit of kick doesn’t it? You going to join me Paddy or am I drinkin’ alone?”

Gadi, CoS

Paddy was already mid pour when Bethy asked the question, “Should we be drinking? We both have to work in the morning.” The counsellor grinned, shrugged his shoulders, raised his glass and said, “To consequences.”

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

She grinned and winked at him, “To consequences.” Bethy took another sip of the blissful concoction. “I don’t know about you but as long as I put something more substantial than coffee on my stomach I’ll be okay. Shall we head for the mess?”
