“I did too answer, but I think you’re just fixated on your one sneaky question that you’re not paying attention,” she said idly, though her eyes held a teasing glint. “I’ve been slightly tipsy before, but never drunk. Never in my life. Just couldn’t allow it,” she said digging back into the stew.

Micah nodded and then said “Naw, not fixated. But I ain’t gonna lie… I needed to know if I was on my own in this. And if you wanna try drunk, we can. Won’t be hard with this stuff, thats for damn sure.” and he took a drink.

It was hard to explain sometimes. Edward had been the great love of her life, and while she didn’t believe there was only one person each in the entire universe, she knew that there were billions of small choices and outcomes required to bring two people together who could be something extraordinary for the other. It was no small deal. And here she was mystified by the man before her, who seemed to peer deeper into her than anyone had in a very long time. It was the feeling of being set forth for judgement and not been found wanting. Her and Reid would have been miserable if they had managed to get and stay married to this point, and Shara understood herself well enough to know she wasn’t one to leap into a relationship. She wasn’t sure what her and Micah were, but it was clear even on the Manhattan that there was more here than a simple connection and some really fun sex. But was it love? Was she in love? Her ‘probably’ still stood true but maybe because she feared the reality. “You’re not in it alone,” she said quietly, reaching for her jar.
Staring at the clear liquid, mysterious in its lack of colour and resemblance to water and knowing it was not the innocent drink it appeared to be, Shara made a choice: she knocked back a healthy gulp of the vintage moonshine, stepping onto a path she had dared never tread. Because getting drunk once did not make you a drunk, did it? Just the once wasn’t going to turn her into her embittered abusive father. Yes, a tendency towards alcoholism could be genetic and for that reason she was glad her daughter had made the decision to abstain from now on due to her own iffy relationship with alcohol, but Shara had never had that problem.

Micah nodded wordlessly and picked up the now empty bowls and took them and the tray and moved them out of the way. He climbed back onto the bed next to Shara and raised his glass jar to hers. “To taking a risk and letting go. And to discovering what all this means.” and he clinked the two glass containers together and then took a drink. “Headaches tomorrow, just be warned.”

“I’ve been witness to more than a few hangovers, I know what I’m in for,” she said, tapping his jar and taking another gulp. damn it was good stuff. Sitting in bed in his Marine Academy t-shirt, she shimmied closer, snuggling up. “What does letting go of control mean for you? We all have our ways but I’ve not been very good at it. The last time I did I moved to a tiny colony despite being a person who likes to be on the move.”
