“Now don’t you go worryin’ about that. I got ya.” Micah said softly. Slowly, gently, he stood up, lifting her against him until he was standing with her cradled against him. He walked her out of the bathroom and to the bed. He laid her gently down and pulled the covers up around her. “Wait right here. I’ll be right back.” He turned and walked towards the stairs, stopping at the dresser and pulling out a faded and well worn Fleet Marine Academy t-shirt. He tossed next to her and smiled. “Why don’t you cover up your more edible parts and I’ll get us some dinner.” and he winked and disappeared down the stairs.
She couldn’t help the smirk that appeared, faint though it was. Slipping the t-shirt over her body, it hung loosely off her but she didn’t care. Propping a pillow up behind her, she drew the warm covers up against her and gazed out the windows at the now
A few minutes later, he came up carrying a tray. On it, two bowls of stew and a loaf of bread. Also, two jars of moonshine. He set it on the bed and took a seat at the foot, cross-legged and reached over and took the lids off the jars. “Have a drink, love. Might help. But go easy.”
Micah
“Don’t worry, being the child of an alcoholic has made me judicious with alcohol, eve after all these years,” she said as he took the jar of Micah’s special -saved-for-a-special -occasion brew. with the weight of the jar in her hand Shara stopped and frowned. “And maybe that’s the problem right there. Always have to be in control. Always measuring things. Always never trying to do too much, be too much, be noticed,” she said with a sigh, before touching the jar to her lips and taking a tentative sip of the moonshine. It was intense but smooth going doing down. And… there was the fire. She raised her brows. “Okay then,” she said with a smirk.
~Shara
Micah looked at her for a moment as if studying her and then said “Might be. Feel like losing control a bit? Going too far? Takin’ a non-calculated risk? Being too much? Like right now… do you want to? Because if you do, I think I know a way you can do that without leaving this bed and it’s completely safe.” Normally the words would have been a part of one the trademark Pikelsimer innuendos… but not this time. This time he was serious. He took a bite of bread and looked at her, chewing slowly.
Micah
Shara peered at him from over the top of her jar of moonshine as she took another tentative sip. Her eyes searched him deeply, trying to understand, though what was the question. Taking a more generous swallow, her eyes slipped closed as she let the liquid slip down her throat. Almost unconsciously, her shoulders relaxed a little bit more. “Can’t think of a better place to do so,” she said, opening her eyes to gaze at him.
~Shara
Micah nodded and swallowed the bread, took a drink, and looked at her. “Ok… so I want you to not think, not ponder. I don’t want you to give it a thought, these questions I’m gonna ask you. I’m gonna ask… you just answer. Immediately. Whatever answer pops in your head, ok?” He dusted off his fingers and leaned forward. “Just answer yes or no. Here we go.” and he waited for a moment and then said:
Shara had pulled her bowl of stew over and taken a bite while he was explaining. Food made from scratch always tasted better than replicated. It was probably psychosomatic but it was just a fact hard to ignore.
“Do you like beets?”
“Cooked, yes. Pickled, no.”
“Is swimming your favorite exercise?”
“Yup,” she said tearing off a piece of bread.
“Do you like ice cream?”
“Always.”
“Do you love me?”
“Probably.”
“Do you like the stew?”
“Best stew I’ve had in awhile. Needs a touch more salt though.”
“Do you want to drink till we cant see straight?”
Micah
“Most definitely,” Shara said, popping the bread in her mouth. She was aware of each and every answer and though she was aware there might have been a tiny bit of a game within it, she didn’t mind. She had spoken honestly. He deserved no less from her, even if it was about beets.
~Shara
Micah looked at her and just nodded slightly. “Pickled is king. Swimming is the second best cardio I can think of. Ice creams good, ‘cept for vanilla. I moved past probably a while back.” He took a small packet off the tray and tossed it in her lap. “Thought so. And ya didn’t answer my last question, so I’ll have to find another means of making you pass out.”
