She was a woman who fundamentally needed an escape plan. She always had one, always hunted it out. It had bee often so much of her life that it was second nature to her now. He understood that, even if maybe he didn’t know the whole of the why beyond some details in a personnel file. So Shara could forgive him expecting it of her- it didn’t hurt her he thought that way. There was still so much they didn’t know about each other yet, but the one thing they had with each other was time. There was time yet to unravel a bit more.
Se did lean forward and seemingly pull away from him, but only so she could half-turn her body so her head could turn to face him. Trails of moisture remained on her cheeks as she gazed at him deeply. “Huh, is that all?” she said and leaned in, tentatively touching her lips to his.

Micah kissed her back, gently, his thumb brushing aside the remains of the tears. “Yeah, love… that’s all.” and then he kissed her again. Softly at first, but slowly with more. The kisses turned to soft bites on her chin and neck, and then he turned her so she was facing him fully. He stopped long enough to look at her, really look at her, his hand on her cheek. He smiled and then began kissing her again. The words themselves would come.. in time… but for now his touch conveyed their meaning.

They weren’t people who made promises since in their line of work promises could get you or others killed. everything was a measure of probability, of possibilities rather than surety. And yet, each touch, each press against her lips felt something akin to a promise. And maybe it was. But they weren’t about the next day or the day after that. It was all about then in the here and now. Nothing more, nothing less. And that was something she could accept.
She kissed him back for long moments where time meant nothing, until instinctively she pulled back to gaze at him, the smile entirely in her eyes. “Show me the way back?” she said softly. She meant through the tunnel, but of course she really didn’t need him to do so now that she had been through it once. But maybe se wanted to gaze at his body and admire it a bit longer or maybe there was something deeper in her words. He could let his imagination decide.

Micah smiled at her and said “Anything for you.” and he picked up the mesh bag and tied it around his wrist. He turned off the lantern, plunging the cavern into pitch black. Then his hand began to glow and he put the lantern away and stashed the crate. Slowly sliding into the water, he looked back at Shara and said “I really do, ya know.” and then took a breath and slipped under the water.

Lucky for her that he disappeared under the water and didn’t wait for her response. She wasn’t sure she was ready to give him one. He was right enough on that, and his hesitation at telling her wasn’t entirely misplaced. She didn’t fear his depth of feeling but at the same time she was’t sure what she was feeling herself. Maybe she wasn’t ready, or maybe she was in denial. Who knew.
Diving in gently, she followed him back through the tunnel, trying to ignore the unease the tunnel itself brought up. She wasn’t claustrophobic, but definitely one of those ill-placed side effects of her PTSD was the fear of being trapped. of having no way out. Tight spaces didn’t help that feeling even if they themselves weren’t the thing she was afraid of. But all her training helped her push through the discomfort, setting it aside so that she could complete a task: in this case, making it through and safely back up to the surface of the pool at the waterfall. Rigorous hardship training had its perks.
