A little while before McMillan arrived in his office to start his day, his first patient of the day (whom did not have an actual appointment but knew he didn’t have one scheduled) slipped in and took a seat on the guests’ side of the desk. In full duty uniform, her plain brown hair was pulled up and neatly pinned in place off her face and shoulders. Lifting a foot, she rested it on the edge of her chair with one arm braced across her knee while that same hand held a PADD. A mug of coffee sat on the desk and she lifted it to her lips now and again.

Lieutenant Patrick McMillan stepped out of his quarters and stretched, his first few days aboard the Asimov had been incredibly productive, so much so that he was grateful to be able to scroll down the PADD containing his appointments and see that several of them did not begin until 1300 hours that afternoon. Paddy let out a small sigh of relief as he spun on his heel and started a leisurely walk down to his office. He arrived at his office five minutes later, and almost fell backwards from the shock of seeing Commander Shara Calloway sat inside his office, that same childlike grin she had been wearing when they met crossing her face as he righted himself, “Jaysus, Commander you frightened me, can I help?”

Shara regarded Patrick with amusement but also ease. “Just a boarding eval, and probably what will be a regular thing for us,” she said, sipping her coffee. “Have you had a chance to read my file?” she added, her grin growing. It was quite the file, but then again so much of it was classified that you sometimes had to read between the lines. Not everyone knew how, and some of those that did wished they hadn’t.

“If I’m honest Shara, if I may call you that,” Paddy began, stifling a yawn, “I’ve not long woken up myself, but maybe you can help me go through what I have of your file, there seem to be rather a lot of redactions.” The Counsellor crossed the room to his office replicator, making sure to leave his now open PADD on the desk in full view of Commander Calloway and, after a long drag of strong Irish coffee, Paddy sat and grinned cheekily at the CIO.
