“Mmmm,” she said, almost wistfully, her lips still tingling. “Well, on one hand I love surprises when I’m the one doing the surprising, and I’m exceptionally patient, on the other hand, it is you and that must mean something good. So…”-she rested on arm along the crook of his neck, her fingers stroking his hair-“call me too curious for my own good and I’ll have my surprise now.”

Micah grinned and reached into his pocket, pulling out the small rod with little studs on it he had used to open the hatch. “Here.” he said and put it in her hand.”I know ya ain’t the kind to take to being stuck somewhere without an exit well, so thats yours for the next few weeks. You wanna leave, you press right here -” and he set her finger on the top most stud, “-and that gets you in. Right here gets you right back to the shuttle port.” and he pointed to an icon on the display that had a note stuck next to it that read ‘See ya around the galaxy…’.

As her fingers slipped around the rod, Shara felt a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach. She couldn’t explain it but it was definitely unsettling. And at the same time there was a sense of comfort and gratitude. He understood her.

He looked at her and said “I ain’t never brought nobody here. And I ain’t lookin’ ta bring anyone else but you. Don’t ask me why, ‘cause I can’t explain it an’ I ain’t gonna start tryin’. But know that my house is yours… as long as she you want it. ‘K?”

Her stone-washed blue eyes gazed at him deeply. “You are the most singularly surprising man I’ve met in a very long time Micah.” She waved the rod. “I don’t think this is necessary but I appreciate the gesture.” She slipped back into the co-pilot’s seat. “Now, you promised me coffee but it better be damn good because hunny it’s time to make good on that promise,” she said with a grin as she looked out the viewer.
