“So why not holo-conference her classes? It would ease her transition, would it not? And rigging holo-emitters is nothing. Could be done in a few hours.” he suggested and sipped his wine. “As for the furniture, send me specifications and I will see what we can do. Whatever is here, however, has to meet standards and be fixed to the deck of bulkhead. Well, anything not a chair. Other than that, Engineering can more than likely fabricate.”

Si’Rek

“It would as long as it doesn’t keep her from making friends here as well,” Siadra replied thoughtfully. “I’ll think about it and then get back to you, okay?”

“And regarding the furniture: I haven’t put much thought into yet, but Li has been bugging me for a loft bed for quite a while,” Siadra laughed. “I wouldn’t want her to have a really high one. Low enough that I can still reach her fairly easily if I have to, but high enough to build a cosy cave underneath. Do you think that would be possible and safe enough?” she asked, her head tilted slightly to the side.

Before Si’Rek could respond, the door chime sounded next to them, as the doors parted, the young bright eyed face of Lieutenant Patrick McMillan grinned warmly in the door way, “Commander, Chief, good evening. I hope I’m not interrupting anything important?”

OOC: Hope you don’t mind me jumping in ;)

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

An expression of deep confusion had appeared on Siadra’s face when the chime had sounded, mixed with worry that it might have woken her daughter. She wasn’t used to people just showing up at her quarters. Especially not at this time of day. And while she sensed no urgency from the person n the other side, she felt like she couldn’t just ignore it and thus let the person. Still sitting on the couch next to Si’Rek with her wine glass in hand, the First Officer looked up at McMillan and asked with confusion and maybe even a hint of irritation written all over her face, “What brings you to my quarters at this late hour Counsellor? Did something happen?”

~Cmdr. Enai, XO

Paddy suddenly felt a surge of dread filling his mind, “Oh - I… Forgive me Commander, I didn’t mean to interrupt, excuse me!” The irishman stepped awkwardly out of the room, nearly colliding with a young ensign, who he was incredibly apologetic to, before bolting from the room and heading back to his quarters.

-Lieutenant Patrick McMillan: Counsellor-

Si’Rek watched the exchange. When Siadra turned he looked at her and said “Very well, I’ll be the first to ask… what was that?!“

Si’Rek, CE

For a moment or two Siadra just sat there and looked from Si’Rek to door and then back again. Still plainly confused by what had just happened. Eventually a soft laugh bubbled from her chest and shook her head. “I have no idea. Maybe he confused the time and date from the dinner invite I sent to all senior officers earlier today?”

After taking a sip of wine, Siadra said, “Anyway. I think we were talking about furniture before we got interrupted.” The one good thing that could be said about the unexpected visit: It seemed to have lightened her mood a little.

~Siadra

“Yes. Quite.” he said and shook his head and chuckled. He looked at Siadra and said “So tell me… do you plan to stay long? Or is this a step to something more permanent?”

Si’Rek

“I hope so,” Siadra replied sincerely before taking another sip of wine. “I hope to stay here for at least some years. I don’t think it’ll be my last assignment, but I think I’m much like Liara that I prefer consistency and stability over change.”

~Siadra

Si’Rek looked obviously surprised at the answer. “Really? Hmmm… I would have thought you would prefer a bigger ship. One where Liara could have classmates and friends of her own. Although, with a crew of seventy, I’m quite certain she will have some most unique friends soon enough.” and he chuckled. “Maybe I can convice the Captain to let me paint a caricature of her on the hull… like a mascot.” and he grinned at Siadra.

Si’Rek, CE

Blood rushed to her cheeks and Siadra bowed her head slightly. “I know, of course, that a ship this small is not ideal. I want her to have friends her own age and I want her to experience as much stability as possible.” Looking up again and locking her black eyes with Si’Rek’s silver ones. “Was it wrong of me to accept this position instead of waiting for one on a bigger ship?” she asked rather suddenly.

~Siadra

Si’Rek looked at her for a long moment, head tilted to the side slightly. Finally he said “Siadra… how would I know the answer to that? This is your life we are talking about. Yours and Liara’s. You two are the only ones who get to say if your choices are right or wrong. But I will say that having lived as long as I have… I have seen far less responsible choices made. Perhaps a small ship is best so you can have time to work on you and her alone. Perhaps she…or you… will get bored and leave. It’s happened. But Siadra… at some point you are going to have to start making choices for you as well as her.”

Si’Rek, CE

“You’re right of course. I’m sorry,” Siadra replied and, without asking, leaned against Si’Rek’s shoulder. Suddenly feeling the need for some physical connection. “And of course I know I have to make choices for myself as well as for Liara. It’s just not always that easy. She’ll always be my first priority. Or at least as long as she is a child. I also know that I can only be a good mother to her when I take care of myself as well. And yet even though I know all that, finding the right balance is often more difficult than I care to admit. Then I tend to default to doing something that I think will be in her best interest. Accepting this position was the biggest exception from that rule in a long time. Maybe ever.”

~Siadra

He didn’t shy away from the contact. “Finding balance isn’t a finite process… it’s a continuous one. And sometimes you will just fall, but thats okay. As long as you get back up, you can find your balance again.”

Si’Rek

Tilting her head so she could see Si’Rek’s face, Siadra asked, “Have you ever considered a career change? I think you’d make a great counsellor. You are really good at this.”
