USS Asimov
Side Sim: Daily Procedures (Open)
If someone had told the engineer she would be in the position of a Chief, only a year after she had joined the Asimov as a linguist, she might have laughed in your face, shaking her head in disagreement. Yet, here she was, a comms-gone-mechanic, moving about the engineering deck, seeing to the daily check of the systems to ensure their efficiency and their production. Rolling her shoulders, she found herself in a state of contemplation, both regarding the ship and life in general. It was almost peculiar, how quickly things could change in a place such as Starfleet. One moment, all seemed quite well and the next.. the world was falling to pieces right before your feet, and there was nothing you or anyone could do about it.
Chuckling to herself, she ran a scan on the warp core, checking for any impurities in its conversion and energy reserves. They did not want to be dealing with a faulty core on ship that moved as often as did the Asimov. Quietly reviewing the scans below her, she rose her head to the sound of an ensign, catching her attention with a simple greeting, perhaps intended to ensue a brief, albeit amicable conversation.
“Morning, Chief. How is she looking?” A young man inquired, his dark blue skin characteristic of the Andorian he was. Antennae moves about, involuntarily, upon his forehead, his eyes glittering with the ambient mischief of the Andorian people, a smile present within his eyes, even if his lips expressed the common ill manner of his people. Of course, he was not always friendly, and he was not always incapable of kindness. Much as the bipolar nature of his planet, and the remainder of his people, NE Verdis was known for his fluctuating emotions.
“She is doing all right, Ensign.” She brushed her hands against her uniform, ridding them of anything that might have accumulated: residue or dust, which the latter seemed incredibly rare. “Any plans for the day?”
“Not really,” The man admitted with a shrug of his shoulders, a PaDD resting in his hands, but it did not seem to have any purpose beyond being carried around for any given purpose, if he ever actually needed it.
“How do you feel about tending to some routine work in the Jeffries?” Andromeda inquired, watching the characteristic cringe from the man. “I know, everyone hates to do that, but we need to get it done. What do you say?”
“If you really need me to..” It was evident in his voice, the Andorian had no desire to work in the confined spaces of the jefferies tubes, but he also knew he was under the command of the Native American woman, thus, he had to listen to whatever she asked.. within reason.
“Great! I’ll comm NE Whited and have him join you,” Watching as the man nodded and departed, she quickly commed the older Ensign, making certain he was sure of what needed to be done, before she ended communications and returned to her previous work. It was calm, for once, and she chose to make use of that, while she still could.
