“We are able to get 12 kilowatts per hour out of the solar panels, and 3 kilowatts per hour out of the water mill. We’ve got mirrors that someone has to adjust manually to ensure we get the most out of the solar panels. We’re using all of it – the power generation is enough to charge a battery cell long enough for us to replicate one small non-complicated item every 4 hours or so… if we stopped using the computer systems. We were lucky… we found the materials for solar panels in the cargo bays, so we didn’t have to replicate anything. We were also able to jury rig the water mill from parts,” replied Fixit, “The 3 kilowatt per hour is enough to keep the main computer running, but not all the computer systems, and certainly not under heavy computational load. The energy is not enough to run the magnetic fields to control the antimatter-matter reaction for the warp core.”

He sighed deeply. “Like the freaking Dark Ages,” Finn muttered.

“Okay, what other forms of power generation can we use?” he pondered, setting another frequency crystal in place. “What do we know about what’s around the ship? Any forms of fuel we could use for simple engines?”

Finnegan, Engineering

“We’re pretty much limited to motion generation power,” replied Fixit, “We can burn our hydrogen fuel to generate power but it’s rather an inefficient use of the hydrogen fuel. Around the ship is plenty of trees, but we haven’t explored much beyond that.”

Riley snapped the communicator shut, tested it clicking through the cycles, and deposited it in the pile of completed badges.

“That might be enough to build a steam engine,” he pointed out. “We have a source of water and a source of fuel.” He continued fidgeting with a new combadge, working it open and preparing the modifications. “Easy enough to make from interior paneling,” he said, leaning over the device on the table. “Probably the first one ever made from duranium though,” he chuckled. He was silent for a few seconds as he lifted some wires and then inserted a component.

“Assuming our plasma cutters and welders are still charged,” he sighed.

Finn, Engineering

“Yes, those are at least for now,” said Fixit, “We haven’t made much progress on repairing the hull… it wasn’t a priority.”
