USS Ark Angel

Main Sim - The Station - Mazi's Work

[snip]

Scans of the ‘egg’ turned up negative while the dampening field was in place it was just too strong to bust through with their hand held and TR-600 tricorders wrist units. They COULD probably just shut down the field but then who knew what that might be protecting them from with this ‘egg’

As Mazi would study the power lines she could see that likely the field was already tapped into the core near as directly as it could be without being next to it. The cables and generators were supplementing the core it seemed to dampen.....something regarding the ‘egg’. It seems Kala’s theory about endangering the core would be a likely one if directly connected any closer.

Kala closed the tricorder and shoved it back in the pack “Can we drop this containment field? Even just for a second so I can go in and get a closer look we’re trying to fry eggs, Excuse the pun without a pan.” She turned to face Mazi and Eve who would inevitably give them nod “Its not doing much to stop it from breaking havoc anyway.” The young trill shrugged.

Eve having read through the consoles, could confirm they could probably shut it down easiest and quickest by simply turning off the supplementary power generators nearby. Unless they planned to hack the command console functions of the computer on the station they either needed to shut off power here, or get someone in engineering with such access to do it.

“Why don’t we just unplug it?” Arthur asked. He wasn’t very familiar with Engineering or similar stuff, but he knew that unplugging electronics usually turned them off.

Arthur Jones, Son of Ruk

Mazi shook her head as she came back to take a closer look at the egg. “I don’t think we should lower the field without one of the ship’s science and engineering crew here. It’s in a containment field for a reason. And the fact it’s being ‘dampened’ for a reason is what concerns me. There is a myriad of reasons and things that could go wrong if left unshielded. The least of which would be a full shut down of the ship if the dampening field is limiting how much power the egg can draw.” She shook her head again with more emphasis.

“We need local help up here.” Mazi tapped her comm badge, =^=Chief, it’s Mazi… are there any crew scientists or engineers who can come help with this thing? Whatever it is is in a protective field and is being dampened for a reason. I don’t wanna just ‘unplug it’,” she winked at Jones letting him know she had heard him, “till we know what’s being dampened and what it could do it released.=^=There was a moment of silence before she clarified. =^=I mean crew from this ship. Hopefully someone who worked with the egg directly.=^=

=^=Lieutenant Eve is on her way Lieutenant Mazi=^= she called.

“Hmm,” Eve responded with a meaningless vocalization she had often witnessed others using as shorthand for ‘I have internally assessed the situation and shall now externally offer my results’.

“I do not think we shall be receiving any further assistance, Lt Allendor. The problem must be rectified by those of us present. With one final study of the terminals before her, Eve returned to the egg and her gathered colleagues.

“I agree with Ensign Gorvel that this dampening field is preventing us from gathering any information on the egg and that a temporary lowering of the field might be beneficial in that regard.”

Turning to Arthur, the android continued, “And indeed, the easiest way to do that would be to terminate the field’s power source from the generators in this room.”

“I am not entirely discounting your concerns, however,” she added to Mazi with a raise of her shoulders that appeared something like a shrug. “We require further information on this situation.”

And there was no more optimum source than the most incredible and esteemed mind on the entire station. As long as she, too, had not been neutralized by this power drain.

=^= Computer =^= Eve called out, =^= I require the complete history of this egg-like structure. =^=

  • Eve (Eng)

Listening Kala wasn’t sure whether she was going to like Eve as company but the more they spent time together the more she really understood her, and in turn grew to like her. She remained silent however as she waited for the others to react to Evs statements.

Mazi nodded to Eve. “I agree about us not getting further help.” She sighed and shook her head. “Much as I hate to say it, I think we need to consider shutting it down as well. Let’s see what the computer has to say. Then, if we proceed, I recommend you and I remain and the others depart. If something goes amiss, we need help sent for. And that won’t happen if we are all incapacitated at once.” She smiled and nodded to the others in the room.

The station’s computer beeped. =/\= I am sorry unknown user, you do not have appropriate access privileges to that information. Please contact Station Chief Engineer Shodan for more information. =/\= It said in a gender neutral like voice. This wasn’t a Starfleet station so it was of the local alien’s manufacture not the usual MAJEL interface.
