He looked around the engineering room and looked up toward the strange globe object that was apparently what they were having issues with. He knew that Romulans used that sort of power, but he himself had never been aboard a Romulan ship to see one up close. As the man gave out orders, he let him finish before Simon added to the introduction “Lieutenant Commander Simon Starr, of the federation starship Ark Angel, we’re here in response to a distress signal.”

Shodan turned from his busy work, looking flustered and short tempered. “..Yes? What what? Good you fleeters are finally here! Where’s your engineering team? Surely you’re not all thats here to help??” He said.

With the power drain on the station going on, it was no surprise Shodan looked flustered. He was in a difficult situation after all, and Simon didn’t hold that against him. He had learned that one does not always meet people at their best. “Our Engineers are already investigating the issue with the power core. I thought I’d come and see you myself and let you know we’re here,” Simon answered calmly. “When did this power drain start?” he said, appreciating that Shodan was busy. He didn’t want to ask too many pointless questions, but getting an idea of any changes when the drain started may give them something to start with. He hadn’t forgotten about the artifact the crew members told him about on the way here, but he asked in a way that suggested he had just arrived and needed to be filled in.

”..Fine fine good to meet you. As for when this power drain started? Why it started the moment we turned on this stupid singularity core I tell you! Shoddy construction and programming, ‘top of the line’ my arse!” he spat. Utterly avoiding any mention of the artifact the XO knew about on deck 15, in fact Shodan seemed down right cagey about avoiding such information leaking out.

Simon deliberately didn’t want to overplay his hand at that point. So nodded along as they spoke. “And who installed the singularity core?” he asked. He had a theory, but wanted to confirm it by asking that first, but he hadn’t forgotten about the other possible cause. He hoped one of the crew had arrived on Deck 15 to have a look at the device. If the person responsible for the installation of the singularity core was the same as the one who brought the artifact, then it was definitely something to consider.
