After completing her check-in’s with the ship’s staff, Lilliana grew hungry. She found her way to 17 Forward, one of several of the large vessel’s dining facilities. She walked in and looked around, taking in the size of the dining hall and all of the crew present that she had yet to meet. Then, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted someone who seemed familiar. ~It couldn’t be, could it?~ Lilliana thought to herself. She carefully approached the table where the lone officer, an ensign, like herself, sat chewing on a sandwich of some kind. As she got closer, she realized it most certainly was exactly who she thought. “Kala?” She said, in disbelief. “Kala Gorvel! What in space are you doing here?!” She said, her voice dripping with excitement. Kala was one of her peers from the Academy. She hadn’t known anyone else in their class got orders to the Ark Angel. Suddenly, the vast unknown that was the ship became a little more familiar.

Kala looked up from her food and smiled “Well I never!” She said standing to greet the other young Ensign and her academy friend, “I could say the same about you, I thought I was the only one from our intake that was assigned to the Angel.,” She motioned for Lillian to take the seat opposite her “Sitting down? I’m sure we have some catching up to do, did you manage to get to spend some time on the Starbase?” Kala was now beaming with delight at the prospect of having a friend already on board the ship. The pair had met during their second year when they were still learning the ropes, Lillian ended up going security and Kala obviously Science but the pair still often talked.

Lilliana smiled, eyes wide with wonder, replying, “I know! I wonder if we’ll find anyone else!” As Kala motioned for her to sit, Lilliana realized she hadn’t yet grabbed anything to actually eat. “Sure! Give me just a second to grab something to eat. I’ll be right back. Don’t go away!” Lilliana hurried excitedly over to a replicator and ordered a simple, but delicious BLT and a glass of sweetened iced tea. She returned quickly with the tray and sat opposite of Kala. “I actually didn’t get to spend time at the Starbase hardly at all. By the time I got there they needed to get me beamed aboard before the ship got out of range and I’d have to take a shuttle. I literally just got aboard earlier today. I’ve had just enough time to throw my stuff in my room and get my evals completed. Speaking of room, can you believe this ship?? How lucky are we??” Lilliana gushed, taking an odd bite of her sandwich here and there between words. She came from a well-to-do family on Earth but she’d expected her Star Fleet experience to be drastically different by comparison yet here she was onboard her first assignment and it was a Mythology Class! Not to mention, she was lucky enough to be assigned there with a friend!

Kala had munched through half her lunch by the time her friend had returned but knew that they would be spending more time talking than actually eating. “I know! I’ve only just moved into my quarters as I was beamed from the shuttle straight to the ship as it was about to go to warp. I can’t believe we’re already off on our first adventure. I’m going to have to find things to fill my room…” She thought as if just speaking her thoughts, much like she was sued to when in the company of Lillian “The Academy could never have prepared me for the size of this ship, what deck are you on?!”
