“Aye Sir.” She said softly breaking out her Tricorder. Catt started by scanning the area around the Broken end of the strut, looking to confirm her theory that it was metal fatigue. She checked for any indication it had been shot off that might not be visible by eye next. Third and mostly because life sciences was her specialty field she checked for life forms. A Klingon ship had been discovered by a Federation ship to have been contaminated by a bacteria that ate Duranium. Catt’s theory on that lifeforms origin had gotten her high marks and disturbed a few of the brass at the same time. Duranium was a alloy not found in nature thzt was only used for structures in space due to cost. It had to be a biological weapon. But that was a unlikely cause of this failure so she refrained from useless chatter tille she had more information.

While there was signs of metal fatigue and shearing this was due likely in part to the loss of control of the ship the Brown’s Town crew had experienced and their sudden heralding into this system and then crash. No natural or unnatural cause seemed in evidence.

Equally missing was any cause for the aforementioned warp imbalance, at least nothing obvious, it might just be one of those flukes of programming had caused this horrible accident and the fluke of science had caused a temporal based wormhole to sling them to here. More could be investigated of course, but it was unlikely they would find much more.
