Domingo stood and collected both plates before moving them into the kitchen area to set aside. He then walked as confidently as he could muster back to Katie while calling out, “Computer, play an easy salsa song to dance to.”

While an appropriately ethnic salsa rhythm was piped in over the sound system, Domingo held out his hand. “It would be a shame to end it just yet. May I have this dance senorita?”

Katie continued to shift uncomfortably as Chavez cleared the dishes away. She tried to still herself as he returned to the table, but her eyes widened as he instructed the computer to play music. Her upper teeth came down on the side of her lower lip as she flushed slightly and resisted the urge to shake her head. Even with several glasses of wine, she had never been much of a dancer. She forced herself to meet his eyes and saw reflected how difficult this was for him too. Letting go of her caught lip, she placed a slightly clammy hand in his and allowed him to pull her up out of her chair.

Domingo pulled Katie to her feet before leading her away from the table. With enough room to maneuver for dancing, he placed one of her hands on his shoulder before putting one of his on her shoulder blade. He held her free hand a bit between them and to the side.

“I’ll lead.” Domingo uttered barely over a whisper, “We’ll take it slow. Just try to keep your feet moving in mirror to mine.”

Putting words to action he took a step forward with his left before moving it back in line with his other foot and then taking a step back with his right. He kept an easy rhythm to the music, just stepping forward and back without any variations just yet.
