Dominic had decided to head to the holodeck 2 and get in some archery sessions as he programmed the holodeck room to a nice sunny green field equipped with enough stuff to keep anyone busy. Once the scenery was placed he had walked into it pleased with the setup walking over to the rack of bows and arrows grabbing one of each testing the tension of each bow finding one similar to what he used back on the Academy ship he was on. Before he had gotten too far he decided to tap his com badge =^=This is Ensign Corvax down in holodeck 2 I have started a program anyone can join if they feel up to it.=^= He said as he grabbed bow closest to what he used, he had grabbed some safety gear to keep his arm protected from the bows backlash. As Dominic prepared his arrow on the bow he shut his eyes pulling the arrow back on the bow remembering how to keep his posture and remembered what he was told by a fellow colleague. The moment he remembered how he was taught to use the bow and arrow he had opened his eyes carefully aiming at a target a little ways away from himself when he was ready he released the arrow with a satisfactory sound of it swooshing away and hit the target. As he watched where it landed he was very pleased with himself and the progress he intended to make in not only archery. As the young ensign loaded another arrow and drew it back he could almost hear a familiar voice. A voice he grew fond of while on the Academy. After he drew it back he took his aim precisely and carefully and released the arrow watching where it would land. Dominic smiled rather content with his mild progress sitting down for a short moment wanting to wait for any arrivals to appear to join him in his archery session.

“Not a bad shot,” a southern British accent responded as the second arrow hit the target. “For a medic,” the voice said. In his new command red uniform, Starr stepped into the holodeck checking out the setup. “Reminds me of target practice on the farm, though we’d typically use game. Whenever a predator got too close - a clean shot for a clean kill. A simple life,” he said with a sigh. “So, think you can hit the bullseye?” Simon asked with a smile.

Dominic turned seeing Simon had showed up “thank you sir” he said being polite with a shy smile and a light blush appeared a crossed his cheeks as he listened to Simon talk about the farm. When he heard that question he looked at the bullseye “I will.....with more practice of course.....I’m just glad I haven’t harmed anyone with my old unruly aim. ” he said with a cheeky smile towards him

“I always found it helpful to look at it like your guiding the arrow where you want it to go. Distance is an important consideration on that archaic thing, but that just adds to the challenge in using them. Anyone can shoot a phaser these days and it’ll hit around or on its target, and I still miss from time to time,” Simon responded with a chuckle. “And practice is what makes perfection. People that are good at it don’t tell you that when they were young and just starting out, they were off target just as much as everybody else, even the professionals,” he said with a smile as he walked up to another free target and pulled up the bow nearby.

Simon measured the weight and tension of the bow by testing the string before cocking an arrow, it’s fletching kissing the string, pulling it up to his chin, he took a deep breath, breathed in one more time and held it for a moment and in that moment released the tension on the bow, hitting it’s intended target. “Of course, a fox is a lot quicker and likes to feed on cattle, along with the wolves - and so shooting them is a bit more difficult, when you spot them in time,” he said lowering the bow and checking out Dominic’s stance as Simon waited for him to take his next shot.

Dominic watched and listened quietly to Simon nodding in agreement “valid point sir.” He said as he readied another arrow taking his time on aiming to see if he was capable of hitting the bullseyes on the target. He had a feeling he could but not practicing enough could have changed that entirely. “Let’s see if I can hit it the bullseyes.” He said with confidence

Simon kept a discrete eye on Corvax, while continuing to shoot his own target, as to try and not make him feel too uncomfortable. He noted his posture and how he was holding the bow, and could tell that someone had shown him how to do it correctly already. He didn’t say anything, but as he let off his second shot, landing just centimetres away from the first they were almost touching. “Always wanted to do an arrow split, never quite got it,” he said with a chuckle as he watched Corvax release his next arrow.

Dominic took a deep breath relaxing as he took his aim on the target releasing the arrow watching it hit the bullseye just by a hair “well that could have been way worse. And that would be pretty neat being able to do a arrow split. Hey, maybe we can train on doing that together. If you want to of course that is.... I mean it was just an idea, sir.” He mumbled softly realizing he was being a bit pushy towards him.” I’m sorry sir. If I was pushy.” He said apologetically towards him.

“I may be wearing command colours now, Ensign, but I was still a security officer first,” Simon answered with a smile. “I would be stupid not to take you up on that offer, and it wasn’t pushy at all,” he said reassuringly. “Besides, when you want something, you should ask for it Ensign. I didn’t get where I am now by being shy about my objectives, but I’ve still yet to make it to what I was aiming for,” he said. “But first, I have unfinished business, and this mission is the perfect place to be right now, at least for me,” he said as he took another shot, just a hair away from the previous shot. “Best place to look for someone who’s disappeared is in places that they can’t reach home, after all,” he said thoughtfully, his bow arm relaxing a little.

Dominic nodded and smiled”then ill ask nicely to be called Dominic off duty then sir.” He said with a sweet cheeky smile showing his mood was back to normal rather than being shy as before but the pinkish color still remained on his face.

It was at that moment that Miz’uki walked in though she had a tool kit with her “Ohh I am sorry I was going to run Diagnostics and what not…I Apologize I should have checked to make sure the holodeck was not in use first!” she purred “What are you two doing?” she asked curiously

Dominic looked over at the lieutenant and smiled” no your fine! We were just in the middle of an archery session!” He said kindly to her with a smile blushing insanely in embarrassment.

“Nothing like a bit of target practice with historical weapons, I appreciate someone who is interested enough to look to the past as well as the present, and I’ve always had a fascination for ancient weaponry, and seeing its development to what we have now,” Simon added, tapping his holstered phaser. “It’s sometimes good to appreciate where we’ve come. Computer, increase wind speed by 0.5 miles per hour, in a ‘westerly’ direction,” Simon commanded.

“Affirmative, hurricane simulation training beginning,” the computer replied, as the rooms wind speed increased. Grabbing hold of something, Simon shouted to Miz’uki “Looks like you came just in time, Lieutenant,” over the now increased wind sound.

“My people’s history favors Melee weapons though we had our own ranged weapons they were more limited it was not seen as very honorable to shoot someone from a distance.” Miz’uki explained walking up and looking at everything “I would need to be taught how but I would not mind Trying if that is ok?” she said smiling

Dominic nodded “yea of course! Give it a go and we can help as needed does that sound good?” He asked with a smile across his face.

“Well Thats just it…I don’t even Know where to begin with this” she said picking up one of the bows and examining it “this is the first time I have ever even seen one of these let alone held one!” she said not even sure how to operate it” Miz’uki purred looking confused on what to do next

Dominic smiled walking over with an arm guard ” here this is an arm guard the backlash from the bow could hurt you if done incorrectly. I’d like you to put it on please.” He said gently taking the bow so she could put on the arm guard ” once you done I’ll show you how to have your posture and how to draw back the string OK?” He asked kindly.

she smiled handing the bow over and looking the arm guard over “I am right-handed does that mean this goes on my right arm or my left?” she asked curiously trying it on to see if it would even cooperate with her fur covered arm

It’ll go on the arm that isn’t going to pull back the string. So take me for instance, I pull back the string with my left hand so my right arm” he said pausing holding his right arm out before continuing” would be the one to have the arm guard.” He said hoping it would help her understand.

she put the guard on her left arm understanding right away it was not comfortable being that the guard was not playing nice with her fur or her claws however she got it on “it does not really work well with my fur but safety first right…So whats next?” she asked eager to learn something new

Miz’you

Dominic nodded”that’s alright once you get the hang of it where you won’t have this issue you won’t have to wear anymore but for the first couple of sessions it’s definitely preferred.so now that you have the guard on go ahead and pick up the bow with your dominant hand which is the one with the arm guard. Once you pick it up I want you to draw the string back so I can see how your posture is and so I can correct it if needed.” He explained politely trying to not overwhelm her.

she nodded picking the bow up she grabbed the string with her hand wrapping all her finger and she was holding it at chest level “Like this?” she asked curiously though something did not feel quite right to her, her tail was flicking about showing her anticipation and anxiety at doing something different her ears were moving about as if scanning for danger it, of course, was just natural for her

Dominic gently moved her arms and fingers to a proper posture” ok so I’m gently correcting your posture it was a bit off. Remember it only takes 2 fingers. That’s to make sure the back of the around is secured on the string. And remember also. Don’t leave the string resting on your skin. It’ll react badly. And keep your body as straight as you can within the comfort zone.”

“Only Two fingers?” she asked quite surprised still she allowed the ensign to move her however was needed “Ohhkayyy” she purred in surprise at the posture though she began to feel somehow it was better than before “Ok So I take it the end with the feathers attaches to the string?” she asked kindly

Dominic smiled at how well she had caught “yea exactly. The feather is the end that you hold onto the string because it has a small notch in it to be seated on the string. So go ahead and slowly take the string back to its original state. Once you have done so I want you to load the arrow and draw it back on the string the way I had you draw it back just now alright?” He asked as he grabbed a few arrows to have her load them when she was ready.

she nodded taking an arrow nocking it and drawing it back like any weapon she kept it downrange though she, of course, was not sure how to aim it so she took her best guess “How do I aim with this thing?” she asked keeping the bow drawn

Dominic smiled making sure she had good posture once again and corrected her aim”see that target down there a few feet away? I want you to aim at it and don’t rush it. Take your time ok? Focus on where you want the arrow to go. Once you have your target and you feel confident enough to release the arrow and watch it fly. Even if you mess up it’s ok it means you keep trying till you get it right.” Said Dominic giving her some confidence

she nodded and when she took her best guess about her aim she let the arrow fly her aim was thrown off by a rough release and so the arrow flying down range did not even hit the target

Dominic smiled”that was way better than the first time my dad taught me. Nearly had one of these blasted arrows go to my mother’s head. “He said chuckling ” but don’t worry you’ll get and don’t be afraid of the backlash from the bow. It’s not as scary as you think. Once you get used to it, it won’t phase you anymore.” He explained calmly and smiled “try again for me ok?” He asked nicely

“Ok One more then I have to get back to my Diagnostic I am technically still on duty” she chuckled as she tried again “Its a Light day in Engineering so I figured I could at least try this out” she added as she drew another arrow again a rough release hurt her aim though this time it did hit the target on the outer most ring “Well at least I hit it!” she purred

Dominic smiled nodding” of course I understand.” He said smiling and saw it hit the target “hey! Well done! You hit it!” He said to her grinning like a loon “well then I guess you better get back to work then don’t you need you getting busted.” He said as he let her go back to work.

She smiled at the Ensign setting the bow down and taking off the arm guard she picked her tool bag up and moved to access a hidden panel on the holodeck and run a diagnostic

Dominic had put away what they got out for her to use and picked back up the bows and arrows he was using and took his aim on the target drawing back the arrow carefully watching where he wanted to aim and when he was ready he released the arrow and watched it hit the bullseyes”haha there we go. Much better. I need to practice more often don’t you think Starr?” He asked Simon looking towards him smiling

Simon leaned up against a nearby wall while watching the medical officer teach the engineer how to use a bow. His shoulder just resting lightly on the wall and legs crossed, arms folded. He let out a small sigh and said “Computer, cancel training and run previous program,” he saw the doctor and engineer enjoying their time that he couldn’t help but crack a small smile, almost imperceptable. “That can wait,” he said to himself under his breath.

As Dominic had finished the instruction and turned and asked him “learning to teach is a good way to learn, you find yourself improve when your showing someone else, it takes real talent,” he said. “But nobody can ever claim perfection,” he said, just as Mitz’uri was making her way to the control panel. “The first time I fired a bow, I hit my friend’s window out, my parents were not happy with me,” he chuckled. “Then I end up in Starfleet Security, because I practiced, and got better, and practiced - especially living a farm life, defending the crops against predators is part of the life, and my family liked the traditional styles,” he said. “We still did a lot by hand, even with the technolgy we have today. Was a good upbringing,” he began hinting at something, before snapping himself back. “Well, now that we’ve already ruined the surprise, time for a spock training drill. Computer Restart Starr Test Malfunction 1, holodeck 2,” he said, and once again the winds picked up to high speeds, the diagnostics would show the weather controls had simply been adjusted in the program, as if someone had altered the program at some point.

Dominic bit his lip listening to Simon, he was very interested in the different things he had spoken of he wanted to learn more about him but didn’t want to be pushy or intrude on his personal space.
