[snip]Once things settled Drudoc spoke again. “..My research into many holidays among the crew often has shown me several have a gift or boon given. So with that in mind could I have the following crew members come forward?” She said. “..Ensign Arthur Jones and Lieutenant Junior Grade Simon Starr!” She said.
When Simon heard his name, he looked over to the podium where the captain was and began to make his way over cautiously. He didn’t think he did anything special other than his job, and he thought he did OK, but the mission could have gone better. Shanok didn’t survive, after all. He held on to the fact that their main mission was a success however, and the Gurdian people had learned more about their own culture. Drudoc then pulled out a number of boxes.
Once both members were before her she smiled in a friendly manner and spoke again. “Lieutenant Junior Grade Simon Starr and Ensign Arthur Jones, for both of your deeds this past sim in striving to protect the away team under difficult circumstances. It is my pleasure to award you both the Starfleet medal of Bravery!” She said. Pinning the awards to both their shirts. Keeping then a hand raised for quiet she continued. “..Furthermore Lieutenant Starr it is my pleasure to grant you a field promotion to full Lieutenant and with the departure of our previous XO after consultation with Commodore Reilly grant you the position of Executive Officer effective immediately.” She said pinning the full Lieutenant pip onto his collar.
Once the round of cheers and applause died down she continued, “..But that of course leaves us for the moment without a chief of security does it not? Ensign Jones hmm?” She said with a smile. “..with this in mind it is my honor to grant you a field promotion of Lieutenant Junior Grade and for you to assume the position of chief of security aboard this ship effective immediately.” She said also pinning the junior lieutenant pip onto his collar. “..Do either of you have anything you’d like to say?” she asked. Letting either one speak then.

Arthur blinked. First, the Medal of Bravery, and now a promotion in rank and position? What was he supposed to say? “Thank you, Captain. I came into Starfleet to carry on a legacy I hardly knew, and I feel like I’m doing both it and my heritage proud. I’ll serve like a Klingon Warrior should:with honor and bravery.”
LtJg Arthur Jones, Son of Ruk, CoS
Simon gave a slight nod as he firstly accepted the medal and then was told of his promotion. It was the promotion that actually shocked him the most. He came into Starfleet looking to become a JAG, and now he was a step closer, having made it to Executive Officer. He wanted to get some command experience beforehand, and thought this would be the perfect opportunity. “I’ll keep it short, Captain. Firstly thank you, and thank you to each and every member of the crew for making this place feel like home. To think it doesn’t feel like long ago I was in Arthur’s position. I look forward to taking on this new responsibility and challenge,” he replied and for the first time in six years, began feeling that holiday spirit once again. He still couldn’t help but think about Tom and what he would be up to during this time of year, if he was still alive. Simon wasn’t one to give up hope, but six years was a long time. After the brief look of distraction he continued.
“I look forward to working even more closely with everybody, and I hope everybody enjoys the party, to the crew of the Ark Angel,” he said as he raised a glass to the rest of the crew gathered in 17/18 Forward.
Lieutenant Simon Starr, XO
Thoon stepped into the lounge just as the cheer from Lt. Starr’s toast was dying down. He joined in, unsure of what he was cheering, but what did that matter? A celebration is a celebration. He began to wend his way through the crowd, strategically steering himself toward to food. He passed a waiter carrying a tray of something that looked like stuffed puff pastries. He grabbed one and tossed it into his mouth. It was amazing. He briefly considered turning around and finding that waiter again, but he was close enough to the table that it would be silly. He took a plate and began to load up on as many different things he could. Thoon caught an NE staring at his plate and caught his eye. He smiled broadly and chuckled. He turned back around and scanned the crowd, absentmindedly popping food into his mouth. The Counselor and XO were just a few meters away chatting amiably. Thoon gently shouldered his way over to the two of them. “Hello Sir, Counselor. Quite the party!” He gestured with his plate. “The food is incredible!” as if to drive his point home he popped a bacon wrapped scallop into his mouth. He made a pleased croaking sound. He picked up another one and held it up. “What are these things? I feel like I could live off of them.”

“This looks great. I…I never experienced anything like this.”
Lt. JG Philips Ops Officer
“They’re a type of seafood, delicious if you ask me,” Simon answered while eating one himself. “The bacon accents the flavor so well,” he added. “There are quite a few of us here, and a good thing to. I wasn’t the first officer when this was arranged. It won’t be long before we’ll have another mission, so enjoy yourselves. But in general, how have you found things at the ark angel so far?” he asked. “That’s a question for all of you,” he said to Phillips, Nunn and Furrood, with a curious tone. He wanted to know if anything needed to be done, and social settings was always a place people were more willing to put their hair down. Both of them had joined the crew after him, so he wanted to take this moment to get their views on everything.
Lieutenant Simon Starr, XO
“To be honest sir, being on this ship is a lot different than the academy. Nothing beats the practice of a ship’s routine instead of learning something in a classroom and not knowing what to expect. I learned more as a Ops officer on this ship than my years in the academy.”
Lt. JG Philips
Ops OfficerKatie’s conversation with Starr had been quickly interrupted by the arrival of the CMO and then the CO. She nibbled at the items on her plate and cheered for the recognized crew as they received their promotions. Soon, she found herself back with a collection of other officers, listening to their new XO speak. She refrained from answering his question for now, curiously looking at the others to hear their answers first. They were directly relevant to her line of work as well and she couldn’t help but feel a bit thrilled that Starr was taking such an interest in the crew’s well-being.
Thoon swallowed the scallop he’d been eating and spoke. “I’m enjoying it a great deal. I mean except for the part where we were lured to the fraudulent archaeological dig of a serial murderer.” He popped another hors d’oeuvre into his mouth and started to chew. Through a full mouth he said. “Besides that, It’s really been wonderful.” He smiled at the 1st officer and crunched away on his cracker and caviar.

Ranlei had awoken half an hour after she had gone down for her nap. It was becoming typical for her to wake like that as the nightmares didn’t let her get any real sleep. She was going to have to wear herself out to the point where she was to tired to think. Well that was something she knew how to do and as she freshened up she went through a list of possible targets for her attentions. The answer kept coming out the same but she kept dismissing it as he just wasn’t interested by all appearances. She had slipped into the bikini she had worn in the christmas card she had given out earlier and slipped a filmy see through silk over it . Despite her best efforts she had a crush. It probably wouldn’t last longer than it took to seduce him if it was typical of her but there had been exceptions. That brought up one of her exceptions to mind and that brought her to tears. She redid her makeup once she recovered and smiled at her reflection once she was perfect, perfumed and prepared. Then she made her way back to the party.
She wasn’t trying to avoid attention this time and she made a entrance worthy of a diva. She carried a gift she had taken the time to fabricate using it to pose from time to time. Letting the full Orion be displayed in a way that made her normal demeanor look chaste.

Miz’uki smiled and clapped for the promotions of the two men however she kept to herself and waited by her display

Dominic had stepped through the door to the lounge feeling he was tad late. The young 18 year old was dressed casually for the occasion, his hair neatly trimmed backed, looking as presentable as possible. He was sure everyone wouldn’t mind that he was mildly late. He had been debating on whether or not to join the rest of the crew in a nice fun occasion, he had ultimately chosen to socialize and get to know the crew better. Once he entered the lounge he had looked around seeing everything going on deciding to stand near one of me Windows with his hands neatly behind his back.

Once everyone had settled down again Drudoc spoke once more. “..Now then who will be participating in our cultural education of the children for their holiday spirit and voting?” She asked.

“I have a Display set up over here Captain” Miz’uki Purred as she smiled brightly ready to tell them about her culture and this holiday

“And once she is done, I shall go next.” Arthur said, moving so he could look at the presentation as well.

Ranlei was suddenly uncomfortable, it was another case of her being out of sync with the family friendly fun the Captain had planed. She didn’t need a display to instruct anyone about how Orions celebrated as there was more than enough of her on display to miake that obvious. She was not used to being body shy anď it was a weird feeling. She manuvered herself out of the way and ended up next to Dominic by the window, “Hello doctor. Nice to see you again.”, she said as she came up to him, of course she had been shying away from the medical staff as stories of her last visit to sickbay was still a hot topic. Actually her last two visits were still the current hot topic of shipboard gossip. She smiled brightly to keep her mood hidden and waited on the Good doctors reply.
