Trax and his assistants arrived from the far side of the camp where they were doing there work as they arrived there as he kept quiet during the incoming call.

Unsure what else to do with herself, Katie had hung back and listened as Starr took the situation, thankfully, out of her hands. Her first away team had suddenly gotten a lot more exciting than expected and she fiddled nervously with the phaser strapped to her hip before pulling it out into her hand. Glancing up at Chavez as Starr exchanged communications with Andone, she made a mental note to ask him to take her through a few practice scenarios once they were safely back on board the ship. Her time at the Academy was a very long time ago at this point and that was the last time she had spent any reasonable amount of time with a phaser in her hands. Fortunately, she had spent plenty of time running on the holodeck, though, so keeping pace with the security officers was easy enough as they made their way to Shanok.

Simon nodded, knowing that having the extra backup, no matter how out of practice, was going to help them - numbers could be rather good at getting a point across. He heard his comm badge go off and just gave it a quick tap. =/\=Acknowledged, on our way to Shanok’s location now=/\= he said as he continued making his way to the archive site.

Just as the away team got back together and rounded some corners they came upon the path leading to the Government building where Shanok and the Operations team were with Ensign Jones and the other security members. They were just close enough to overhear an open comm call from the Captain =/\= Transport is currently impossible due to inference from the power generators in the ruin depths, you’ll need to return to the main base camp by Shanok’s tent where the rest of the away team is with the transport enhancers for a beam out. =/\= Drudoc said.

Before more could be said though Shanok interrupted. “..Really Commander I do not understand what you imply when you say I am ‘un-Vulcan like’. I am as green bloodied as any Vulcan alive. But I am quite interested in seeing what is on that hard drive! I am so close to finding the Lawgiver’s truth from my studies can be.....” he paused his eyes glinting with a hint of almost slimey madness for a second before they cooled to normal. “..so enlightening.” He finished.

Shanok stood just within the doorway at the end of the winding rocky path of the Government building. In one hand behind his back was an old 23rd century Type-2 hand phaser, in the other a small barely palm sized box shaped device of unknown origin or type though it did look quite old given its rusty and dusty looking worn nature.

Simon noticed the box and instantly became more cautious. At this moment it could be anything from a transport signal to an explosive, and knew that it was time to act. He gestured for Corvex to take up a cover position to be ready to stun Shanok should the need arise. Simon had one hand close to his phaser, and called out “Alternatively, you can come with us, Shanok. We’ve got some guests who would like to share the experience on the ship and would like to meet you. The Gurdians are waiting to meet you aboard our ship,” he said, “and we would be bad guests if we were to refuse them their history now, wouldn’t we?” he asked as he unholstered his phaser and aimed it toward Shanok, making it clear that he wasn’t asking.

Shanok clearly surprised to be snuck up on turned with almost supernatural like speed, faster then expected even for a Vulcan! The 23rd century Type-2 phaser in his left hand his wild shot opened fire at the COS the blue beam of energy and whine missed though by a good 10ft, though did shatter some rock nearby. “..NO!” He shouted. In his other hand was a palm sized boxy device with a single red button in it which Shanok’s right finger held steady over to press. He held in this in his right hand with a now clearly alien like gleam in his eyes and on his face holding it above his head for all to see. “..Anyone else move and this whole valley is going up in smoke! I won’t lose this chance now that I have it! All these years mocked, denied, disbelieved in by my theories. Well I won’t lose the truth! I WON’T!!..” He shouted at the end.

For the rest of the away team, the sound of slushy like movement oozing their way was felt and heard just below the ground. It almost sounded like one or more of those grave eating ooze creatures was coming their way to ‘help’ Shanok! Remembering what he had said, and assuming it was true, the hides such they were of these beasts were vulnerable to bright light exposure, nearby attached to some fusion portable packs were several lights they could probably and easily switch on to defend themselves if such a creature or creatures did emerge.

Simon jumped to take cover when he heard the phaser fire, though the beam missed, he didn’t want to take the chance a second time. He was about to call out one more time, but Shanok spoke out mentioning that he would blow the place up. Seeing Shanok raise the device and make that threat, he knew he didn’t have time for discussion at this point, and that the crew was in danger. Simon drew his phaser from behind cover, and as soon as he got a decent opening opened fire on Shanok in an attempt to stun him. That’s when he heard a noise. “Counsellor, get those lights on,” he said - pointing to the various lights outside as he heard the splashing sound that he had heard before with the Engineers.

Starr’s return shot missed Shanok by a small margin as the Vulcan with almost supernatural speed dove into a half buried building next to where the Operations team was inside. Cracks were starting to also form near the Away Team here signaling the emergence of one or more of the grave ooze creatures. Inside the government building the Operations team was a muffled screen was heard with the shattering of stone signaling at least one of the creatures or a part of the creature had gotten inside to the team there.

As the sharp sounds of phaser fire filled the air, Katie stopped dead behind Starr, but thankfully, some instinct kicked in as she tumbled with him behind the cover. Her face was pale and sweaty as she held a death grip on the phaser, her knuckles turning white from the exertion. She remained hidden behind the cover as he returned fire, forcing herself to slow her breathing from the panicky state it had ascended to between the sprint back and the battle occurring. It took her a brief moment but she processed the COS’ orders and nodded at him hesitantly. Peeking around the cover, she saw that Shanok was hidden away and made a beeline to the power packs. Her shaky hands set her phaser down next to them as she searched for the switch to get them turned on.
