“Actually…” Trainor said as he pulled out his phaser. “We’ll do this now.” The Operations Chief set his phaser to a low setting and carefully began slicing the rock in two. “This should save us some time and strength.” Tenzing added.

“Do the same with some of the other larger rocks, Lieutenant.” Trainor told Philip.

“Aye sir, setting the phaser on low.” Philips aimed the phaser at a large rock and proceeded to slice the rock.

As the operations team phasered their way through the rocks they eventually tread a path down into the buried ruins of a large government type building. Across the windows were boards of ancient wood and metal showing hasty efforts to prevent someone or something from getting in....or out. Either way they had an open access point from a busted in front door from a sonic drill probe which lay off to the side from Shanok’s work. The dark depths of the building lay open for them to explore to find the sought after written or computerized versions of the archives Shanok indicated lay within.

Arthur grabbed his phaser at his hip, keeping it low as he peeked into the room. He wasn’t afraid per se but the room was dark, and there could literally be anything inside, he was kinda fond of his limbs and not being a meal for Kahless-knows-what.

Seeing the opening, Tenzing holstered his phaser. “Ensign Jones, can you shine a light through the doorway?” Lieutenant Commander Trainor asked as he stepped down closer to the ruins. “Philips, please alert Shanok of our findings and that we’ll know exactly what we’re looking at in a few moments.”

“Yes sir.” Arthur said, holding his phaser in one hand, and turning on the light with the other. He held it out to shine it’s light into the room.

When Jones would shine his hand held light into the opening he found the half buried government building in surprisingly good shape all things considered for being buried for 1500 years. Ankle deep layers of dirt and dust were evident all over. The room ahead in view of his flashlight was rectangular like the building and opened into an entry hall with four marble pillars engraved with intricate designs. A marble style desk of some kind was nearby ahead of them with large stacks of dusty books. Some kind of boxy computer terminal and manual style input device was also present.

Along the walls and floor in spots though still half seen through the cake of dirt and dust from ages past were signs though of bones and half mummified corpses.

“I wonder what happened.” Philips took out his tricorder to scan the bones and bodies he saw.
