Taking water samples was an easy enough task, through a thin film of some kind similar to an oily film was felt in spots as they went into the container.

Using his tricorder, Lt. Frogue scanned the immediate area before he responded to the Captain.

Scans quickly revealed an interesting discovery just below the lake surface by about an foot or so below the surface he found an energy dampening field through which his tricorder could not penetrate. There was also evidence there might be some sort of holographic projection array in use!
