“Looks like you’ll only have me, Lieutenant.” Tenzing said as he rounded the corner and approached his Junior Officer. “Let’s use this shovel to push the rocks aside.” The COO added as he attempted to push one of the larger rocks out of the way. The rock only moved a few inches before the Lieutenant Commander stopped to wipe his brow.

“Lieutenant, what would happen if we use a lower setting on the phaser to cut these rocks into pieces?” Trainor knew the sensitivity of the items buried beneath the rock and how they could possibly cut them instead of physically moving the rock, he just needed a second opinion.

Phillip could confirm by scans that in theory if the Operations team were careful they could use a narrow band low setting type-2 phaser to slice the rocks which would speed up the process of moving them by hand or shovel. They would just have to still go slow in places to watch footing and to avoid slicing up any priceless artifacts or the like. So Trainor’s theory was sound he could report.

“Better than nothing. We could try the phaser, but at what setting? I don’t want to damage anything behind the rocks. Maybe we could use a sonic resonator to break the rocks without destroying what’s behind it.” Philips suggested.

While the away team did not have floodlights there were numerous ones from Shanok’s dig site they could repurpose for the COS’s use.
