[snip]Simon shrugged “Ha, boring…” he let the word hang in the air for a moment as he thought.
“But Tom, that’s so boring - why do we have to move it, surely there’s machines for that now,” a young Simon in his minds eye said. “Simple, so that if someone thinks they can bully you at school, you can stand up for yourself, now flip it,” the other figure from the memory said. Thomas Starr, older brother of Simon, and he couldn’t help but smile as he had the flashback of one of his keen memories of his brother. Shaking his head slightly, he bought himself to the here and now. Thomas was missing, after all. He had looked out for him for years, and now it was Simon’s turn. Five years was a long time, and as he saw Ranlei leave he bought his attention back to the room, seeing the young doctor standing there. “So, you just gonna watch me or have you figured the game out yet?” he said warmly to the doctor in a very strong southern british accent, of a man who obviously grew up on a British farm.

Dominic blushed and smiled when heard Simon ask if he was gonna keep watching or try one out”not sure, I’ve never gambled before so ultimately this is new for me ” he said with a cheeky smile still blushing.

“Well, your not gonna lose or gain anything from here, if that were the case I would have already shut the place down,” Simon responded with a chuckle. “But it’s actually not that difficult to get ahold of. I’ll put ten credits on slot 8, 14, and 16” he said as he placed down the credits in the respective areas on the table before the wheel began spinning once more.
While he waited for the result, “Well, you only recently graduated and your still young… that makes sense that you haven’t done it before. If you know Roulette - the old game from home, it’s even easier to understand as it’s not that different,” Simon said as the wheel stopped, only one of his lines coming up with color 2 this time. “Oof, not a good run this time,” he said, putting the same bet on the same lines for the next spin.

Dominic had listened to Simon as to how to play, and had watched him place his bets before trying himself in the next round/play “well here goes nothing I guess”

Drudoc sat back crossing her long shapely legs over the other watching the officer’s banter and play. It were moments like these she mused she enjoyed. The sense of comradery and dare she say even family. Friendships were something that could be made or broken on deep space assignments like those the Ark Angel would find themselves on, and she was keen to study how she thought the groups forming and mingling would handle their coming missions. Even if fights or arguments would break out among the crew as she knew they would on a ship dynamically as large as the Mythology class she also knew that at the end of the day disagreements or even dislikes or not they had to get along for the safety and duty of the ship and crew. It was in those scope in the veins of relaxing that Drudoc also was here tonight.

At this time walked in Lt.(j.g.) Frogue. Up and until now he had really kept to himself; for Timothy to allow himself to interact like this was a big deal.

There were variables in the program so that every evening at the Lady Luck was different. She had fed in pretty much every trope used in Stories set in a Casino then added to that from other sources. The three VIP’s at the front desk were a odd lot to say the least. The Infamous Don Falcone and his two body guards. A noted Vulcan Anthropologist who was studying the so called seamy side of human culture. And a south American dictator indicated that this was going to be a weird night. Her plans to sing went out the window as The Don was only interested in watching her dance. “Don Falcone. I will have your usual table ready in the Red Lounge.”, The Don as always kissed her hand nodded and headed for the elevator. She approached the Dictator next and greeted him with a smile, “El Presidante for life good to see you again.”, she said smoothly and didn’t cringe as he invariably insisted she sing for him tonight. It was going to a very tiring evening it seemed. The Vulcan she handed them 10,000 credits to and asked him not to just hover about watching others. Hex was polite but gave no real answer. Once the three were dispatched to their rooms bellhops and baggage in tow behind them She turned and nearly bumped into a tall man in a white suit. “Mr. Rorke. She said in some surprise as a gaggle of teenagers and their Doberman walked past her talking to themselves. She frowned and was going to have to dial down the complexity a bit for the next run and maybe add a filter to group story elements in a more tightly defined genres. She was just thinking it couldn’t get stranger when In walked General Patton in full d ess uniform and that silly chrome parade helmet. OK. every time you ran a holosim on a new holodeck and under a new computer it developed quirks. Normally the quirks were hardly noticeable. But getting so many major plot characters all at once was more than a quirk. She sat and tried to figure out what to do. Then headed back to the casino with a Smirk, “Let it ride.” She said as she rejoined the group at the Dabo table.

The casino was crowded with all manner of people and every species known to the Federation. All of them dressed in 1930’s Earth semi formal. The Dabo girl was in a flapper dress that she wore to great effect. Celebrities mingled with tourists, mingled with aliens mingled with the crew on the holodeck. The casino itself was perhaps a bit to garish reflecting a time when the electric light was still new and exciting to a people who mostly still lived by candlelight. Slot machines, mechanical racing and dabo tables all vied to create the most noise the sounds mixing in a manner that only happened in a casino. All of it underlied by the murmuring of a thousand conversations. This was the main floor of the Lady luck. Ranlei was rather proud of the casino. Where it veered from authenticity it did so to accommodate the modern users tastes rather than because she hadn’t known better. The casino had taken up most of the time the program had taken. The singing venue, the dancing venue, the swimming pool, the hotel suites. All of them had been a lot easier. She had even created a court yard with a fountain under moonlight for the romantically inclined.
Ranlei sighed, the casino program was everything she thought she ought to have in her life. But at the same time it had she released the same fault s as the real world in that it was tailor made to highlight her, but she still felt like a puzzle piece placed in the wrong box. But it was about the guests not her after all. So she smiled, greeted people touched hands elbows and otherwise entertained like a minor celebrity.

Drudoc by this point had moved on from watching her senior staff mingle to talking to a few engineering NE’s over by a spot where a few dart boards had been setup. Despite the boasts of one of the male NE’s saying he could outdo anyone, including the Fleet Captain as he proclaimed to anyone watching, he was quickly put in his place humbly by Drudoc’s keen hand-eye coordination in throwing the darts all into the bullseye ring for a perfect score out of three games.
”..Sorry for doubting you ma’am..” he was overheard saying rubbing the back of his neck.
”..Don’t worry about it Ensign, keep practicing I’ll be happy to take up your challenge again in the future..” She said with a friendly shake of hands.

Dominic had smiled enjoying the different things that this had to offer. He was actually quite glad he had shown up. Once Dominic was content and done gambling for the time being, he had decided to sit down somewhere and take in the surroundings better as he relaxed some.

Ranlei needed to be in about ten places at once if she followed the script the program was running. Dancing for Dictator Marcos. Singing for Don Falcone. Being hostess on the main floor of the casino. She of course was Orion so she had a cheat ready for just such a eventuality. So she stepped out of sight a moment and 4 seperate Ranlei’s headed to 4 seperate of the entertainment venuses. A dancer in a skimpy crop top and skirt made of more tassels then cloth. A chorus girl in the feathers and leotard typical of that job headed onto the casino floor to hover near gamblers and bring them luck. One wore a striped suit sutable for a casino manager and went into the office. And one with the Glamor dress she had been wearing headed to the concert hall. Which one was the actual Ranlei of the four was anyones guess. A few minutes later another Ranlei stepped out of the alcove in a white blouse, black slacks and gold pumps. She headed over to a poker game and joined the game when a spot became available.

Waitresses served drinks to the gamblers liberally. They were wearing either black or white bunny suits that would look at home at the playboy mansion. They collected tips if offered but the drinks were on the house. Many of the drinks had a bit more bite to them than synthahol usually provided.

Simon took a break from the Dabo and smiled as the captain threw the darts hitting the bullseye every time. He walked over, taking a break from the Dabo table and said, “You know, hitting the triple twenty gives a much better score,” he said. “Used to play darts with my dad on our occasional downtime,” he mentioned, picking up the darts and taking a couple of steps back from the official line. Each target hit the triple segment of the 20 at the top of the dart board. “Reminds me of home. I usually hit about 90% on the triple twenty, my dad, now he was good enough to go pro, he only missed it once in the times I played with him,” Starr said with a chuckle as he handed the darts back to the NE. “Besides, if we’re playing by 301 rules, you haven’t won yet captain,” he said with a smile.

Philips walked into the Casino holodeck. As he looked around, he was a little confused. He never knew how to play any of these games. Philips sat down at the Dabo table and asked the person running it, “How do I play this?” He then ordered a drink as he settled in .
