OOC: Splitting up the original sim thread into department duties as assigned.

Shanok looked to the engineering and operation members of the away team. He had a pair of PADDs in each hand. First he approached those among the enginerring staff handing a PADD which detailed the sonic drill setup, as well as several power relays and generators from the past century belonging to the Vulcan Science Directorate that were arrayed around the large dig site. “..You will find as you already have that the sonic drill I use is quite aged, almost as old as I am in fact..” He said, and was that a joke from the stoic aged Vulcan? Who knew. “..The main sonic emitter needs replacement as do several power relays and I am sure the duotronic computer inside it needs several chip replacements given the amount of software faults which happen when it does run. I would prefer continuing to use it as I have found it interferes less with the ancient ruins around us where there are ancient power sources still buried. Less chance of explosions or damage to these relics then if I used more traditional modern methods of laser or plasma diggers..” he said. “..There are also several generators around the dig site that need to be refitted and cleaned from the sand and dust around the ruins that have clogged up the intakes. I have tried to keep up on this where I can but I am only one man and my studies take precedence..” he said. Showing on the PADD six locations of generators spread out over a two mile or so radius among the ruins most beyond the current cover of the camp site and security emitters that had been setup since they beamed down.

Turning then to the operation’s members he handed another PADD. “..If you could proceed with more manual efforts in digging up a recent dig site I have outlined I would appreciate it. The site is I believe home to an access point to a buried archive or library of some sort. Both of ancient books and scrolls and perhaps some sort of computer system based on surface scans I have performed in the past week before your arrival. I will trust you will endeavor to take full care in digging up this entryway and will inform me of any questions or discoveries you may come upon..” He said. The dig site location was not too far off still within the safety of the base camp perimeter and the security emitters setup so unlike the engineering team operations would not have to worry too much about the local wildlife harassing them.

”..Do either of you have questions before I release you to your assigned tasks?” he asked.

Simon looked over to the two teams being formed by Shanok and then said “I’ll have a member of my team with each group, just in case. Looking like the engineering team may have more things, he went up to Chavez and Thoon. “Ensign Chavez, you’ll be joining the Engineering team, ensure their safety - I’ll be joining you as they may have more things to deal with. Ensign Thoon, join with the Operations team as they make their way to the archive, you’ll be responsible for that team’s safety, I’ll let Trainor know that you have your orders,” he said to his officers before heading over to Trainor. “Based on what we know, the engineering team might have some wildlife problems so I’ll join Chavez, unless you have other plans for the security department, commander?” he asked Trainor. This was his team, after all.

Lieutenant (J.G) Simon Starr, CoS

“Understood, sir.” Thoon made his way over to where the operations team was congregating. He picked up a medpack from the equipment they’d beamed down with them and slung it across his shoulder. He double checked his phaser settings and secured it firmly in the hip holster. He looked up at the small team and smiled warmly. “Ensign Furood, Security and Combat Lifesaver. Pleased to meet you all.”

Ranlei quirked an eyebrow at the Vulcan. Team? She thought as he detailed what he wanted. Seeing as she was the only Engineer that had been sent down she didn’t think team was the proper term. “Laser drills are for drilling wells for water. What I want is to replace your unit with sir is a state of the art system that uses tractor repulsor technology. It was designed specifically for archeological use. I brought along a power generator that is brand new and state of the art to power it and avoid incompatibility issues. But sir if you absolutely want the sonics repaired I can do that. But your likely destroying any pottery or glass fragments as sonics will powder those types of things.”, she said in a neutral tone.

Ensign Ranlei Greene. Engineering.

”..Unfortunately tractor repulsors wont work here, due in part to the anomalies caused by the Lawgiver ruin’s power relays and ancient generators The Vulcan Science Directorate has determined that there is no feasible way to adjust such devices to work, though you are welcome to challenge their findings. As for destroying glass and pottery I have been careful to use the sonic drill for the larger drilling points. Not for inside the buildings or the like..” He said. “..If you could refit the current equipment it would be appreciated..” Shanok said.

“With your permission, Mr. Shanok, may I check the sonic drill and then I could possibly refit it some how.” Philips said.

”..Lieutenant I think that your skills would be better suited to looking into the archive I mentioned previously in digging it up. It will be a slow process by hand as I said..” Shanok said.

“No problem, Mr. Shanok, I’ll get onto the archive right away. If I find anything of importance, I’ll let you know. This should prove interesting.” Philips said.

OOC: Phillip I really hate to ask but are you even reading my posts? I outlined above what operations will be doing for the remainder of the sim.

Domingo moved closer to the sole engineer, a nod of the head and a smile in greeting. He double checked his gear while making sure he had emergency supplies on hand, as one never knew when you’d need a rope, a medkit, or food and water.

“Sorry for stepping away, Mister Shanok.” Tenzing said as he approached the man. “I had to get something settled.., anyway what tasks have you for me?” Lt Cmdr Trainor added. It looked like a few of the officers were in the process of going over some equipment, while others were unpacking whatever items were brought with them.
