Domingo smiled back in response, “My grandmother wouldn’t forgive me for not pulling out all the stops. Firstly because you’re a very beautiful woman and nothing less would suffice, but also because I represent her cooking in your first taste of my heritage. I do hope it’s to your liking.”
Having pick up a fork Domingo began tucking into his dinner, with the occasional sip of wine.
“How are you finding the Ark Angel so far?” he asked.

Katie’s fairly pale complexion flushed pink from her forehead to the skin revealed by the v-neck of her dress at Chavez’s compliment. She murmured her thanks in a barely audible tone as she reached for her utensil and nibbled at the food. It was delicious, of course, but the nerve-induced tumbling in her stomach made her reluctant to eat too much too quickly. She took a long sip of the wine, hoping that it would calm and steady her. She nibbled on another bite as she pondered Chavez’s question. “I’m settling in,” she finally replied. She looked down at the liquid in the glass, staring at the reflections the light made in both the drinkware and on the garnet surface. She stabbed a bite of enchilada and chewed carefully again before taking a deep breath and deciding to continue. “The Dresden was my first standard ship posting in a long time and it was good to get my feet wet. I feel like I know what I’m doing here now and I can really focus on helping the crew instead of learning to navigate my role.” Her cheeks pinkened again as she suddenly felt shy at her admission. The counselor wasn’t used to doing the self-reflection.

Domingo slowly nodded in understanding. It had been years before his last duty posting. He picked up his glass and gazed at it introspectively while swirling the bright red contents. “I feel that life is always about learning to navigate our roles. They rarely remain static and seem to be ever shifting. What you perceive your role to be may very well differ from others however.”
Lifting the glass to his lips and draining the rest of his wine, Domingo reached for the bottle and topped off his glass before turning to his beautiful guest, “Would you care for some more wine?”
