As the transporter beams would release the away team one after another the now recombined team got to take in the ruins around them and the planet’s make up as well. All about them were ancient stone/brick like buildings mixed in with Federation standard issue building riggings for aiding in digging and climbing in places. A sonic digger was to their left the large machine currently idle with several panels and parts strewn nearby. To their right was a large olive drab tent presumably where the sole Vulcan archaeologist Shanok called as home. The sky was a olive blue in color tone the air was warm though not unbearably so perhaps a modest 65-70 degrees F.

As they took this all in the Vulcan Shanok came out of his tent, dressed in a dirt adorned assortment of once white pants and shirt. He stood about 6‘0 in height with an angular muscle build like many who did hard digging and labor in this field. Turning to them he said., “..Ah you all must be the away team I expected. Which among you is in charge there is much I could have done to assist me and to help you in turn with your Gurdian guests.” He said.

Ranlei beamed in on the second wave and looked about as the Vulcan made his appearance. She looked about at the site and wasn’t impressed. Obviously the Federation had deemed this as a low priority project and placed minimal effort into it. Which wasn’t overly surprising given they were on the Romulan border and the ruins belonged to a people who’s empire? fell mostly in Romulan space. She finished looking about her eyes falling on the sonic excavator that lay in pieces. Who uses sonics anymore she thought. She had brought a portable unit that likely would do the same job better and with less fussing by the operators. So she pushed her grav cart towards the excavator as it was the most obvious broken thing. If someone wanted something else fixed or looked at first they could tell her. Since she was near Philips after the beam in she said to him. “Seen some fairly ugly slums that I think I would rather visit again than be in this place.”

Simon’s vision rematerialised in the ruins, as he immediately looked around to see the current state, looking for any dangers. He gestured towards the security officers to start patroling and said “Let me know if you see anything immediately, Commander,” Simon turned to the COO, “We’ll deem that there are no hostile threats nearby, whether natural or not, and then you can let us know where you want me and my team,” he said as he made his way to do just that, keeping an eye on any extreme weather or other potential dangers as he looked around the beam-in site.

Lieutenant (J.G) Simon Starr, CoS

“Acknowledged Lieutenant, check in when your team has finished.” Lieutenant Commander Trainor motioned for the CMO and CNS to follow him as he approached Shanok.

“I’m Lieutenant Commander Trainor.” The COO stated as he extended his hand for a shake. “I’ve brought the Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Suder, and our Counselor, Lieutenant Commander Nunn.” Tenzing said motioning to the two officers beside him. “They’ll perform a quick check up and eval to see that you’re all up to date and in good health.”

Trainor
COO

Flanking Trainor, Katie stepped up upon hearing her name. She waited for the Vulcan to shake Trainor’s hand before offering her own in a similar greeting. “I’ll let Dr. Suder take care of your physical first, but I’m looking forward to chatting with you,” she commented, warmly. She hoped that it would be just that – a chat – as a formal evaluation could potentially make the man uncomfortable and that wouldn’t be a productive use of time for anyone.

Nunn, CNS

Trax followed Trainor quietly as he kept an open mind about all people on the mission as he was not sure what to think of the new officers. As he approached Shanok with tricorder in hand. “Nice to meet you Shanok.” Trax commented calmly and avoid of emotion as possible. “How are you?” He said calmly as he extended his hand to shake theirs he was ready to give the Vulcan hand sing just in case he did not want to touch his hand. “Peace and long life. As he made the Vulcan gesture of greeting.

Lt Jg Trax Suder - CMO

Domingo walked a distance away from the ruins while making sure to stay within eye sight of it and the other crew members. He kept an eye out for any threats to the away team.

Ensign Chavez, Sec

Thoon took out his tricorder and began scanning for life signs outside of the camp. He jogged to the edge of camp and then slowed to a walk, moving in the opposite direction of Chavez. He tapped a few keys and added a secondary scan for power sources. In his previous posting on the Pangborn, he’d been part of a much smaller crew and therefore a much smaller department. This meant that, as an officer, there was rarely an away mission he wasn’t on. He’d always loved that duty, the chance to visit an alien world, go further than any Ool so far. He knew of one other Ool in Starfleet but that was all about to change. Word was that Oolass’s petition for entry into the Federation was expected to be accepted. There’d be no more limitations on the number of applicants to the academy, no more restrictive application process for non-Federation citizens and so he expected to be much less of an oddity soon.

He made his way slowly, being careful to watch his footing. He didn’t want to disturb the site and risk disrupting Shanok’s work in some way. He knew next to nothing about archaeology but he did remember that preserving the integrity of a site was important. He was probably being overly cautious, but as a security officer that wasn’t a bad trait.
