Thoon jogged through the atrium toward the docking gate for the USS Ark Angel. The central viewing deck was sparsely populated right now; visitors milling with officers bound for new ships, station personnel watching the ships come and go, and even a civilian or two playing tourist while they waited for their transport to arrive. General announcements echoed through the deck, directing people to their destinations. Thoon was barely aware or any of it. Serving on the Pangborn had been great, and he would miss many of his former crew-mates, but she’d been an aging space-frame and well due for the decommissioning he’d just come from. The Ark Angel was only 6 years old at most, a brand new cruiser the Pangborn could have fit inside four or five times. Here he’d have the chance to be part of something important, the kind of missions that shaped the Federation. The kind of missions that brought Oolass and the Federation together and, if all went well with Oolass’s application for Federation membership, made them brood-mates.

He slowed down as the Ark Angel came into view around the curvature of the docking gate ring. She was huge, filling the floor to ceiling observation windows. He smiled and sped up again. His head barely cleared the handle of the anti-grav pallet that held his luggage and floated ahead of him as his short, thick legs pumped away. He slowed to a walk as he reached the small crowd milling around the doorway to the umbilical leading from the gate to the Ark Angel. He fell in with the steady stream of people boarding the ship and started the long walk to his new home.

(Some Time Later…)

Thoon was jogging down the corridor toward Commander Nunn’s office. Captain Sharma had advised him to get his visit to the ship’s Counselor over first. Most people make it a habit to visit Sickbay first when joining a crew so it tends to be crowded and hectic early in the day. If he visited the Counselor in the morning, he’d be able to make his sickbay visit in the afternoon and not have to wait long for a biobed. Besides, he had none of the reluctance to visit Counselors that seemed to be so common among the humans he’d served with. He slowed to a stop in front of the door to the office. He reached up and tapped the doorchime.

OOC: I loved this post. :)

IC:

“Enter!” came a slightly harried but feminine voice from behind the door, punctuated by the door sliding open in front of Furood. The office in front of him was spartan and uniformly Starfleet. Either the counselor had just arrived as well or she hadn’t had much of an interest in personalizing the rather utilitarian space. The only furniture seemed to be a desk with two chairs in front of it and behind the desk sat a human female glaring at a stack of PaDDs on it. She wore a Starfleet uniform with the teal of her division and Lt Cmdr pips gleaming on it. Her shoulder-length brown hair was pulled back in a business-like ponytail and, as the door slid open, her blue eyes moved from the infuriating stack of paperwork to the officer at the doorway entrance. Standing, she greeted him, “hello, I’m Commander Nunn, the ship’s counselor. How can I help you?”

Nunn, CNS

OOC: Thanks! It was fun to write.

IC: Thoon walked into the office. The door shut behind him, nearly silently as he made his way to the desk. “Ensign Thoon Furood, reporting for my boarding eval, ma’am.” His voice was deep, but with a slight nasal quality. He was short, a few inches under five feet, but stout. His head was broad and his neck was so short that it was almost non-existent. He had a wide mouth and his nostrils were set just above his upper lip, long horizontal slits roughly a human hand-width apart. On either side of his head was a huge eye the size of a tennis ball. A horizontal pupil split the gold iris across its entire visible surface. His skin was darker, bronze instead of gold, and tending toward brown.

Katie’s head tilted to the side in curiosity at Furood. She had seen his name on the crew list for the Ark Angel, but she hadn’t had time to thoroughly read each crew member’s service record yet and she wasn’t familiar with his species. It always presented a challenge when she encountered a new species; spoken language wasn’t so much the issue as trying to decipher the body language of each species. “Well, let’s get that accomplished, then,” she responded, and indicated the two chairs in front of her desk. “Please make yourself comfortable wherever you would like.” Her words were carefully intoned to welcoming to the officer. “I apologize, but I’m not much familiar with the Ool. Can you tell me a little about yourself and your species?”
