“Computer, Begin Recording message for Ryan and Amie Starr to be sent immediately.”

Simon took a breath before he began the message.

“Hi mum, dad. My life in Starfleet has flown by, it’s already been a while and I’ve just been made the chief of security aboard the Ark Angel. Having served under two already, I think it’s time to step up my own responsibilities on the ship. Hope your happy I’m doing well, but unfortunately there is some bad news too. I still haven’t found any signs of Tom, but I’m still looking out for him and any clues I can find.

The other thing is this is going to be my last message in at least a year. We’re going out to some uncharted space that hasn’t been explored yet, and we’ll be getting very little contact back home. We’re going to be away from everyone. I might find some more information about Tom that far out as well. As soon as we get back within communication range, I’ll let you know - and if anything bad does happen, just check in with Starfleet, if there’s anything that is known about, they can let you know and keep you up to date if you are worried. I love you both very much and am glad you let me take the path I have, and hope the farm is doing OK without us there. See you on the other side, love you mum and dad.”

Simon sat down and closed his eyes to just think and watched as the message began to send.
