<snip>“It just doesn’t belong on Shepherd’s pie,” Allison responded with a grin. “On spaghetti? Yes, please.”
“I do agree, although sometimes it’s such a nice luxury to sit down to a slow, hot meal,” she continued, her face looking vaguely wistful as if it had been a while since she’d had that opportunity. It had been a lot of grab and go foods while the Ark Angel was on R&R as she ran from place to place, trying to get settled in her new position as well as work out the kinks as the crew relaxed. “What’s your favorite snack? I’ll make sure to hide some in the desk drawers.”

“Heh, not a good idea, in case anyone on board has a nut allergy,” he said with a smile. “I’m a fan of cashews on the snack side, and the occasional packet of cheese and onion crisps,” he said warmly. “Interesting line of questioning, chief,” he added. “Sounds like your prepping me for something,” he said. It was good to know the chief cared about her staff, but something seemed to nag at the investigative side of Starr, the side he had been training to do all this time. “There has to be a reason your asking these sorts of questions…” he said, continuing the jog.

Allison stopped jogging to laugh heartily. “No ulterior motives, Ensign, I swear,” she finally replied once she had gotten her giggles out. “I just tend to think with my stomach and find it a good way to get to know someone. I was so busy during our time off that you’re just about the only person I’ve gotten to know.” She laughed again and then returned to their physical activity. “I can tell you that I’m already pondering what I’m going to eat after we’ve finished this!”

Simon slowed jogging when Allison stopped and nodded slightly, “I must admit, the talk of food has made me hungry,” he said and chuckled. “Just these happy conversations and finding out about the good in life, is usually to prepare for some sort of bad,” he stopped jogging once more, but wasn’t laughing this time.
“Whether it be someone getting lost, or having drawn the short straw at the academy doing something that nobody wants to do,” he said the last part the smile returning as he continued the jog.

Allison shook her head at Starr. “That’s a pessimistic way to look at it,” she commented with a slight frown. It hadn’t even occurred to her that her friendly chatter could be taken to be a lead in to something else. She returned to the jog beside him, the frown still marring her features as she pondered his response.
