As everyone took their seat Drudoc went to the head of the table pressing a button on the table to have the holo projection unit in the middle light up with a galactic map. Highlighted were the spheres of influence of known races to the Federation for the Beta Quadrant much though was still blank in explored areas. “..This as you can all see is the known and unknown regions for the Beta Quadrant over the past 200 years all known species in its area have probed its depths. For us that same mission is renewed today, we’re to be assigned at least a years long mission of exploration, discovery, and if needed first contact with any warp capable species we encounter. Along the way we will be out of regular contact with Starfleet and its support so as such we need to be on our toes more so than usual..” She said letting things sink in a moment.

Kara gulped as she heard the details of their mission. She hadn’t had much time to prepare for this assignment and although she knew it was a long mission, somehow hearing it spoken out loud seemed to make it feel so much longer. Her thoughts drifted briefly to home and not seeing her adoptive family for probably over a year but she put it behind her as she thought of the excitement of meeting new species, the scientific wonders she could discover and the new friends she was already making.

”..Our first target system is called UES-1229 a deep space probe passed by there showing at least one habitable world. We’re to check the system out then complete a full survey for Exploration Command back on Earth..” She said. “..Our orders are flexible enough for me to make decisions in the moment. Questions?” She asked.

Kara thought for a moment. “Do we know how detailed the scans were Captain? Did they detect any signs of life or was it just a basic composition scan?” she asked, a little nervous to be the first one to speak.

Lt Kara (CSO)

”..Scans from the deep space probe were minimal just enough to get a target the system for follow up surveys and get its general layout or hazards. The rest will be up to us..” She said.

Allison listened attentively to the mission briefing, the caffeine finally hitting her system to help her perk up a little. She had been about to open her mouth to ask a very similar question as the CSO’s, but quickly shut it and then listened carefully for the CO’s response, her black eyes inquisitive. She felt a little uncertain about being such a new COS on such a long mission, but she supposed that she would be much more seasoned when they returned, at least.

“Do we know of any non Federation factions that are venturing out this way?” Tenzing asked once the Captain finished speaking. “I wouldn’t want to run into any Klingons or Romulans so far away from home.” The Lieutenant Commander added.

Trainor OPS

”..None that we know of. Our orders for this system are simple, get science and medical for doing baseline surveys, engineering and operations will focus on mineral analysis and security will keep the local plant and animal life at a safe distance. Any questions” She asked.

“No, ma’am,” Allison pipped up, a little uncertain at being the first department head to acknowledge the CO’s orders. “We’ll be ready to keep the critters at bay.”

”..Good to hear chief..” She said

“Although certain this is already in motion: Captain, I would suggest the crew be run through physicals and psychological evaluations to ensure their endurance capabilities for a mission of this length. I understand it will be strenuous for many of our crew, specifically those of junior and enlisted rank.” Jasmijn remarked, concerned for the crew’s well being.

“When are we scheduled to arrive at our first destination?” She inquired, tilting her head slightly.

Tenzing looked down and smirked. A simple psychological eval won’t crack me He though to himself. The Operations Officer was overall excited to see any new plant or animal life they would come into contact with, and obviously any intelligent being as well.

Trainor OPS

As she heard the XO’s suggestion, Allison narrowly resisted rolling her eyes. While it was a good idea in principle, it missed the point that several of the newer crew members had just received on boarding physicals. She didn’t have time to go repeat that whole process again, so she hoped that her recent one would suffice. She looked down at her espresso and took another sip, hoping it would wash away her cranky demeanor.

”..We’ll be at our first destination in two weeks. Once we leave Starbase 243..” Drudoc replied, waiting for any further questions.

Trax listened to all that was said but kept quiet unless specifically spoken too. making notes as he could on the padd. Making some general survey comparisons. “Was there anything else you wanted medical for besides general surveys? Besides the obvious having sickbay ready for any emergency?” Trax asked quickly before being shut out by one of the other officers.
