<snip>Allison kept the pace slower once Starr caught up with her so that they could continue to chat a bit. This was her favorite way to get in the exercise her position required: with a distraction.
“Well, it’s a Starfleet ship,” she responded with a smile. “I’m sure that I’ll stop getting lost eventually. My first assignment was on a different class of ship. How about you? You’ve been on board longer than I have… any secret areas I should know about?”
Lieut (j.g.) Devlin, COS
Keeping pace, Simon remembered how he had to find his way around when he first was assigned to the ship.
Simon nodded “I know that feeling, and well, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Engineers and Doctors have their secret compartments, but I haven’t got any of my own, yet,” he said in a jokey way. “I’ve found it OK, the self-guided tour that was recommended to me by the doctor did well in helping me learn the place, there are still places I haven’t been yet though, my duties haven’t taken me that way as of yet,” he answered.

“That’s probably a good thing,” Allison responded with a laugh. “I’m sure we’ll find all the secret hidey holes soon enough with all of the trouble the crew has already gotten up to.” Slowing her jog down to a walk, she wiped a droplet of sweat off her face. “I think that’s enough exercise for me for one day,” she commented, lifting one ankle behind her to stretch out her legs. She gave him a playful critical eye and queried, “important question - what’s your favorite meal?”
Lieut (j.g.) Devlin, COS
As Devlin slowed, Starr followed suit noticing they were finishing up. He stretched out his muscles and begun a set of cool-down stretches to ensure that he got the most out of the exercise. “I personally like a good shepherd’s pie, topped with Parmesan cheese, but I don’t get it that often out here, the replicators just don’t do it as well as my mother,” he replied with a slight smile.
“But then again, the replicators can never pull it off quite as good as back home on the farm, fresh crops made for a very different flavor from what we get on board ships, so I guess I can make do with that, as a treat,” he said smiling. “Though, I don’t think it will save us in a crises” he chuckled.

Allison grinned at the ensign. “Shepard’s pie, eh? Well, you pass, except for the addition of the parmesan cheese,” she commented. “And yeah, I didn’t grow up with a ton of fresh crops since I’m a Starfleet brat but I’ve experienced enough to know what you mean.” She paused for a moment and then laughed and added, “but at least the replicators can fulfill any craving on demand. I’m definitely a fan of that feature.”
Lieut (j.g.) Devlin, COS
“Hey, I enjoyed working the land for our food, gave me the stamina and strength that help in this sort of position,” Starr responded as a smile. “And, what’s wrong with Parmesan cheese?” he asked with a smile.
“But yeah, there’s something about food that you worked for tasting that much better,” he said. “Though in this line of work, not having to wait around for the food to be cooked is an advantage - especially if we go to red alert during my lunch break,” he said with a chuckle.
Ensign Simon Starr, Security
“It just doesn’t belong on Shepherd’s pie,” Allison responded with a grin. “On spaghetti? Yes, please.”
“I do agree, although sometimes it’s such a nice luxury to sit down to a slow, hot meal,” she continued, her face looking vaguely wistful as if it had been a while since she’d had that opportunity. It had been a lot of grab and go foods while the Ark Angel was on R&R as she ran from place to place, trying to get settled in her new position as well as work out the kinks as the crew relaxed. “What’s your favorite snack? I’ll make sure to hide some in the desk drawers.”
Lieut (j.g.) Devlin, Sec
“Heh, not a good idea, in case anyone on board has a nut allergy,” he said with a smile. “I’m a fan of cashews on the snack side, and the occasional packet of cheese and onion crisps,” he said warmly. “Interesting line of questioning, chief,” he added. “Sounds like your prepping me for something,” he said. It was good to know the chief cared about her staff, but something seemed to nag at the investigative side of Starr, the side he had been training to do all this time. “There has to be a reason your asking these sorts of questions…” he said, continuing the jog.

Allison stopped jogging to laugh heartily. “No ulterior motives, Ensign, I swear,” she finally replied once she had gotten her giggles out. “I just tend to think with my stomach and find it a good way to get to know someone. I was so busy during our time off that you’re just about the only person I’ve gotten to know.” She laughed again and then returned to their physical activity. “I can tell you that I’m already pondering what I’m going to eat after we’ve finished this!”
