“Oh, no ma’am” Starr responded. “He was offered a job on a freighter ship five years ago for a six-month contract, but never returned. I’m hoping one day I might find him and find out what happened to him,” he said, though starting to get a little tenser as he did so. He always felt he would be judged for his personal goals, but thankfully the more he spoke about it, the less that seemed to be the case. “If we just happen to cross his path, then at least I know what has happened. The ship he was on was listed as missing about three years ago, so I’m not putting my main focus on it, just if we happen to cross paths with what happened, at least that would be closure.” He answered the chief’s question. It was obvious he wouldn’t let it distract him, but there was still something there that suggested he hoped that being in Star fleet would help them cross paths with whatever happened.

Allison nodded knowingly at the information Starr volunteered. She put a comforting hand on his shoulder and observed, “it sounds like you’re in a difficult situation of not knowing what exactly has become of your brother.” She grasped his shoulder briefly and then gave a business-like nod. “Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do with your search. But, for now, welcome aboard the Ark Angel and your first duty shift. Is there anything in particular you’d like to volunteer for?” She said the last part with a quick smile and a twinkle to her dark eyes.

“If something comes up, I’ll let you know, but right now I want to focus on the present - the future can wait. Right now, I still need to get settled on the ship, starting with getting to work” Simon responded regarding his brother. He knew his chief at the Academy did some searching, but with the limited information he had, there wasn’t much more to be done right now. It gave him something to think about, however, and at least someone to help if he stumbled across a new lead.

“Well, I was originally meant to be overseeing the Charlie Shift, I don’t mind going ahead with that as originally planned, ma’am” Simon answered to Allison’s question. “I’m still getting my bearings, so to speak - so whatever needs doing I’m up for learning - the academy can only teach us so much, after all,” he responded with a smile.

“Well, be my guest,” Allison responded, standing up from the security station she’d been leaning against and gesturing to it with her hand. “They’re all yours. I just may be over here getting through all of this lovely paperwork that Starfleet provides when you take over on a new ship.” Her eyes continued to sparkle and she tucked herself out of the way, both to keep a bit of an eye on the ensign and to start making her way through her work.

“Any issues, I’ll let you know immediately ma’am” as Simon took over the Security Station, getting an update on all internal reports on his assigned duty, and any notes left by the previous officer on duty regarding anything to be aware of. It was good to start having something to do, and it was time to see what Simon still had to learn, and what he had taken away from his time at the academy.
