Tiglath took the padd and examined it. After a moment and a soft cough he looked back at the Ensign. ” Tell me about your time at the academy.” He asked, turning to his desk, gesturing to a nearby seat. He sat down and look with interest at the Ensign.

“It was a learning experience,” Starr began in response to the question “and getting to know a bit about what each officer did on a ship, and well - my cadet cruise captain and senior officers encouraged projects of our own and even helped us on some of them. It was a good way to learn, and also make us get more out of the cruise than if we were just told what to do all the time,” he added. He thought back to a day in the Mess Hall with most of the crew, and the guessing game they played and smiled slightly at the many memories he made at the Academy, and the things he learned as much in those times as he did in lectures, simulations and even during the cadet cruise on the Challenger. “More on where my specialties lie, I studied mostly into Federation Law and starship tactics as my second and third-year majors, sir,”

Tiglath nodded. “You studied Federation Law? Did you argue any cases or pass your Bar?” He asked curiously.

“I still have a little further to go for that” Starr added for a smile, “but I remember one of our classes, we looked back at one of the most historic cases, the sentience of Lieutenant Commander Data of the USS Enterprise. It was an intriguing debate. I didn’t even know there were still people that thought the way it wasn’t decided, but apparently” he said while raising his arms and shrugging his shoulders.

“I more studied it so that I wouldn’t be out of line in my duties. Otherwise, I’d be in the JAG office, and I didn’t fancy a desk job, sir” Starr chuckled as he said that. “But, I must admit, knowing the bureaucracy behind it all, it helps me do my job better, and having the extra knowledge, ” he concluded.

“Is that something that you want to pursue, I am sure I can arrange something with JAG, could give you some collateral duties in that office if you are interested.” Tiglath offered, leaning back.

Starr thought about the proposal for a moment. He knew that it could be a good opportunity, but not one that he felt was right for him at the moment. “I think I need to get some more on-hand experience first, in all honesty, sir” he responded. He didn’t want to mention the full reasons why, though it wasn’t a lie. His brother was still out there somewhere, and Starr knew that on a desk job he wouldn’t get any closer to finding him. At least on a ship, there was the chance their paths may cross.

“And I feel the hands-on experience will be useful. Of course, if I have the time for a side project it is something I would consider. Once I’ve settled on the ship and gotten to know the rest of the crew. After all, I’ve only just finished the academy, sir” Starr responded.

Tiglath nodded, “Very well, I am assigning you to the charlie shift bridge duty, you will also be in charge of Charlie division, which is responsible for decks 31-45. NE Pelleon is the current division head, but he has expressed a desire to step down from that responsibility to focus on the more tactical side of shipboard security. He can fill you in on the status of your division.” He stood up. “Any questions?” he asked, grabbing a nearby padd with the orders.

Simon took in the orders the chief were giving him. His first assignment and already taking over as division head. He didn’t expect to have that much responsibility so quickly.

“Yes, sir - and just one, sir - where are the quarters I’m assigned to? I’d like a chance to freshen up a little before meeting the division, sir.” Starr added, he also wanted to get a chance to unpack, but if his orders put his duty shift straight away, it could wait.

TIglath double checked his padd. “It looks like you have been assigned to Room 0742, Deck 7. Your assigned shifts starts at 1900 hours, security station deck 31. You recieved high marks from your academy professors, so I have no doubt that you will do great in your new position.” Tiglath stated with a smile of encouragement.
