“I came to get my psychological exam. Will I have to wait for the next counsellor before I am able to get it, or is there someone with the relevant training already aboard that could get me ready for duty?” Starr asked, not impatiently but in an effort to try and be cleared so that he didn’t have to wait around twiddling his thumbs until someone cleared him for duty.

“Hmm..” Jasmijn considered his dilemma. Psychological evaluations were pertinent to the boarding process, but without a counselor it could not be done. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head. “Come with me, Ensign. I do believe there is a way to get around your little obstacle.” A toothy grin dashed across scarred lips. With a wide gesture, DeVries set off down the corridor.

“Lead the way, ma’am” Simon responded to the XO, following her down the corridor to where she was leading. He wondered what she had planned for his current situation.

DeVries led him to the turbolift, gesturing him inside. A short trip later, they were departing onto another deck. Taking the lead, she made her way down the corridor, turning into an office which presented her name in bold letters beside the door. “After you,” She motioned.

The mysterious

Starr entered the Lt. Cmdr.’s office and as he did so he asked: “Sorry to speak out of place, ma’am, but were you a counsellor before taking your current position?” Seeing the nameplate and position of the officer on the door. He wanted to make sure that he would be talking to someone with the professional capacity and get it over with. It wasn’t his favourite part of the academy, and he doubted it would be his favourite part of any assignment he has, but he knew it was important so knew only to get it done so he didn’t have to worry about it any more. A lesson he learned in the first year of his Academy training, the more he put it off, the more he worried about it so the more he put it off. A never-ending cycle of worry.

In his second year, he tried to get it done as quickly as possible, knowing that even though it wasn’t the most comfortable experience, he knew what to expect, so it didn’t worry him as much. He also found that once it was out of the way, there was nothing to worry about anymore, and he has taken that attitude to these evaluations ever since, but also found they could be helpful, and it made him a better cadet, and he now knew it would make him a better officer.
