A red command indicator appeared across Ensign Cortez’s LCARS display, immediately followed by a cascade of authentication protocols.
Cortez straightened in his chair and began working through the incoming transmission codes. His expression shifted as the system identified the source.

He paused as the system completed the secure routing process.
«“It is being routed directly to your ready room, Commander.”»
The display confirmed the transmission’s destination.

The communications console continued to pulse with the unmistakable Priority One indicator.
Whatever Starfleet Command had to say, they considered it important enough to bypass normal operational communications and deliver it directly to the commanding officer of Listening Post 47.

This communication is being transmitted under Starfleet Command authority.
I regret to inform you of the death of Admiral Erica Archer, Commander, Starfleet Operations Command.
Admiral Archer passed away peacefully in her sleep at Starfleet Headquarters earlier today.
Starfleet Medical was notified immediately. Medical personnel responded and confirmed that Admiral Archer was deceased. A formal medical examination and administrative review are being conducted in accordance with Starfleet regulations.
At this time, there is no evidence of foul play, hostile action, or external interference.
Her death was unexpected.
There was no prior indication that Admiral Archer was suffering from any condition that would have prevented her from continuing her duties.
Her final official communication was transmitted to Listening Post 47 and the USS Ark Angel concerning the ongoing investigation surrounding the PX-941 temporal phenomenon and the USS Pathfinder.
During that communication, Admiral Archer reaffirmed Starfleet’s commitment to the rescue and preservation of the Pathfinder and her crew.
Those orders remain in effect.
COMMAND CONTINUITY
Effective immediately, responsibility for the operational matters previously overseen by Admiral Archer has been transferred to:

It does not constitute a change in command aboard the USS Ark Angel.
Captain T’Nara remains Commanding Officer of the USS Ark Angel and Mission Commander for the Listening Post 47 operation until relieved or otherwise directed by Starfleet Command.
Commander Vance will continue command of Listening Post 47 and will continue providing logistical, sensor, communications, and operational support to the Ark Angel.
The USS Thunder Valley remains authorized to proceed to the area as previously ordered.
No existing rescue authorization concerning the USS Pathfinder has been rescinded.
ADMIRAL ARCHER’S FINAL ORDERS
Admiral Archer’s final instructions remain active.
The USS Pathfinder is to be treated as a Starfleet vessel in distress.
The personnel aboard the Pathfinder are to be treated as active Starfleet personnel requiring rescue and assistance, regardless of the temporal displacement separating them from the present day.
The Ark Angel is authorized to:
- Establish contact with Captain Amelia Hayes and the Pathfinder crew.
- Determine the condition of the Pathfinder and her personnel.
- Assess the vessel’s temporal shielding system.
- Determine whether the Pathfinder can be safely extracted from the PX-941 phenomenon.
- Preserve all sensor data, communications, medical findings, engineering information, and recovered historical evidence.
- Avoid unnecessary interference with the temporal phenomenon.
- Report all confirmed findings to Starfleet Command.
Admiral Archer specifically directed that the Pathfinder not be classified as a historical relic, archaeological artifact, or derelict vessel.
Her final position was unequivocal:
They are Starfleet officers.
That directive remains Starfleet Command policy.

She selected the USS Ark Angel for this assignment because she believed your vessel and crew possessed the capability necessary to confront an unprecedented situation while preserving the lives of those involved.
Her final communication to you contained a simple operational objective:
Bring them home.
That objective has not changed.
You are not being ordered to abandon the Pathfinder investigation because of Admiral Archer’s death.
You are not being asked to alter the mission because Starfleet Command has changed its operational oversight.
You are being instructed to continue the mission under the authority already granted to you.

Listening Post 47 will remain under your command.
Continue monitoring the PX-941 phenomenon and maintain continuous sensor coverage of the Pathfinder.
All station sensor records, communications logs, transporter records, personnel reports, and environmental telemetry associated with the incident are to be preserved.
Do not alter, purge, overwrite, or otherwise modify historical sensor data associated with the Pathfinder or PX-941.
Any significant change in the temporal phenomenon is to be reported immediately to Captain T’Nara and Starfleet Operations.
STARFLEET COMMAND
Admiral Archer served Starfleet with distinction for decades.
She was known for believing that exploration was not merely the pursuit of discovery, but a responsibility to the people who ventured into the unknown in Starfleet’s name.
Her final mission reflected that belief.
She did not consider the Pathfinder’s crew to be people who belonged to history.
She considered them people who were waiting for Starfleet to find them.
Starfleet Command will honor that commitment.
Further information concerning Admiral Archer’s memorial service, funeral arrangements, and posthumous honors will be transmitted separately through Starfleet Personnel Command.
Until those arrangements are announced, all personnel are directed to observe appropriate respect for the deceased admiral and her family.
FINAL COMMAND DIRECTIVE
The loss of Admiral Erica Archer does not change what happened at PX-941.
It does not change the status of the USS Pathfinder.
It does not change the lives currently depending upon the Ark Angel.
And it does not change the orders already given.
