Alex Becket wasn’t sure what to do at this moment as this last mission was his last. He then sighed a little bit as he was sitting in his captain’s chair. He had looked around the ship and seen everyone working and was very proud of each and every single one of them. He was very pleased to have an executive officer at his side. His crew had been the most helpful in times like these, when Command sends them on a mission involving diplomatic ties or something similar. However, he looked up from his pad on his chair. “Mr. Storm. Plot a course back to Starbase 243, maximum warp.” Captain Becket had said.He thought to himself teaching at the academy is a blessing I shouldn’t worry about the new commanding officer. She’ll do fine. He thought to himself. He was still unsure about leaving the ship to someone who hadn’t commanded Starfleet officers. But he knows that his ship will be in good hands. He looked over at his First Officer “Number one, you have the bridge. I’ll be in my quarters packing everything.” He stated to Charlotte. As he knows that she is the most well-trusted officer on board. Let alone everyone else on board. They’ve all made a career out of everything that has made them the best of the best. He just thought that it was best to move on.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelCharlotte looked up from the operations display at the captain’s words, meeting his gaze with a composed nod.
“Aye, Captain. I have the bridge.”
She watched him for a moment, recognizing that beneath his calm professionalism was the weight of saying goodbye to a command that had defined a chapter of his career. It was not a moment she intended to cheapen with unnecessary sentiment.
“I’ll see that we make good time to Starbase 243,” she said evenly. “You can leave the ship to me.”
As Captain Becket rose from his chair, Charlotte stepped forward to stand beside the center seat, waiting until he had departed the bridge before taking her place.
She settled into the captain’s chair—not as its new owner, but as its caretaker.
“Maintain our course for Starbase 243 at maximum warp,” she ordered calmly. “Continue with standard cruise operations. Department heads are to report any developments immediately.”
Her eyes swept across the bridge, taking in each officer at their station.
“The captain has entrusted us with bringing ArkAngel home. Let’s make sure we do exactly that.”
She leaned back slightly, her attention returning to the main viewscreen as the stars stretched into brilliant lines ahead. For now, the bridge—and the responsibility that came with it—was hers.
Commander Dr. Charlotte M. Kelley
XO USS ARK ANGELLieutenant J.G. Lovejoy had chimed in via comms. “Sorry to interrupt, Commander. Engineering has been keeping up with everything. With things happening, we’ve been busy as of late. However, I do concur with Lieutenant Waryn on what he has said. We have had people wanting to leave the ship for some time. I’ve overheard the number of members willing to leave. Other than that nothing else from me, Commander. Engineering out.”
Lieutenant Lovejoy went back to work in engineering and just kept working.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Sara Lovejoy
Engineering Officer
USS Ark AngelCharlotte listened quietly as Lieutenant Lovejoy’s report came through the bridge speakers. When the transmission ended, she pressed the communications control on the arm of the captain’s chair.
“Thank you, Lieutenant. I appreciate the update.”
She paused briefly before continuing.
“I know Engineering has been carrying a heavy workload, and I appreciate the professionalism you and your team have shown throughout these recent events. Continue maintaining ship readiness as we make our way to Starbase 243.”
Her tone remained calm but reassuring.
“As for the concerns you’ve raised, I’ve heard them as well. Change often brings uncertainty, and, understandably, some members of the crew are considering their futures. Once we’re safely at the starbase, everyone will have the opportunity to make those decisions through the proper channels.”
She gave a slight nod to herself before ending the transmission.
“Keep up the excellent work, Lieutenant. Bridge out.”
Commander Dr. Charlotte M. Kelley
XO USS ARK ANGELStorm looked up from the helm “Commander,” he said “I know people are worried about wanting to get off the ship but if I may offer a bit of advice, I personally believe we should enjoy our time onboard the Ark Angel before we make those choices”
LT Commander Jax Storm
Chief Helmsman
U.S.S Ark AngelCharlotte turned her attention toward the helm, listening carefully to Storm’s words. She appreciated that the young officer had taken the initiative to share his thoughts.
“That is a fair point, Lieutenant.”
She looked out toward the stars stretching across the viewscreen, the ArkAngel continuing steadily toward Starbase 243.
“Transitions are difficult. When there is uncertainty, people naturally begin looking ahead and wondering what comes next. But sometimes, in focusing too much on the future, we forget to appreciate where we are in the present.”
She glanced back toward Storm.
“The ArkAngel has been through a great deal. This crew has faced challenges that would have tested any ship, and yet they continued to stand together. That says something about this crew and the bonds they’ve built.”
Charlotte paused briefly.
“I don’t want anyone making a decision out of fear or uncertainty. If people wish to transfer, that is a choice they have every right to make. But it should be made after careful consideration, not simply because things are changing.”
She gave a small nod.
“Thank you for sharing that perspective, Lieutenant. It is exactly the kind of thoughtfulness I expect from the bridge crew.”
Her eyes returned to the viewscreen.
“For now, let’s get the ArkAngel home safely. There will be plenty of time for everyone to decide what comes next.”
Commander Dr. Charlotte M. Kelley
XO USS ARK ANGELSoral had been given a spot on the bridge, though he had nothing to do with Bridge operations as the Chief Diplomatic Officer, he was close by should he be needed. He listened to the conversation that was being had, he intended to stay on the ship , he had come to care for this crew as family not that they would know it, he was getting better with interacting with the crew but he still had a ways to go.
Lt Soral T’Varan
Chief Diplomatic Officer
USS Ark AngelCharlotte noticed Soral standing quietly at the rear of the bridge. Although he had no operational responsibilities during their journey home, his presence did not go unnoticed.
She looked toward him with a respectful nod.
“Lieutenant, thank you for joining us.”
There was a brief pause before she continued.
“I know the uncertainty surrounding a change of command has weighed on many aboard this ship. Even so, seeing members of the senior staff choose to remain present sends an important message to the crew.”
Her tone remained calm and steady.
“The ArkAngel has always been more than its commanding officer. It is the people who serve aboard her that define what she is. Captains come and go, but the ideals we uphold and the bonds we forge endure.”
Charlotte allowed herself a faint smile.
“I have no doubt your counsel will continue to be invaluable in the days ahead, Lieutenant. Whatever the future brings, I know this crew will face it together.”
With that, she returned her attention to the bridge, confident that the officers around her would continue to lead by example as the ArkAngel made her final journey home under Captain Becket’s command.
Commander Dr. Charlotte M. Kelley
XO USS ARK ANGEL“Soral inclined his head respectfully toward the Commander.
“I find myself in agreement, Commander,” he replied in his customary measured tone. “The departure of a commanding officer, regardless of their ability, does not alter the purpose of the vessel. Starfleet’s mission endures through those who continue to serve it.”
His gaze drifted briefly to the stars beyond the viewscreen before returning to the Commander.
“Prior to my assignment aboard the Ark Angel, I might have regarded requests for transfer following a change of command as an inefficient allocation of personnel. Observation, however, has demonstrated that many species—particularly humans—form professional relationships that extend beyond simple organizational structure.”
He paused, considering his next words with characteristic care.
“Such relationships are not without merit. Trust, once established, can significantly enhance cooperation and the effectiveness of a crew. While I do not experience such attachments in the same manner, I have come to understand their practical value.”
A slight inclination of his head followed.
“You have my assurance, Commander, that I shall continue to fulfil my duties as Chief Diplomatic Officer to the fullest extent of my abilities. Stability during periods of transition is… beneficial.”
With that, Soral resumed his quiet vigil over the bridge, content to allow the conversation to settle naturally. The stars continued their silent passage across the viewscreen, indifferent to changes in command—a reminder that while individuals came and went, the pursuit of exploration remained constant.
Lt Soral T’Varan
Chief Diplomatic Officer
USS Ark AngelCharlotte regarded Soral thoughtfully before offering an approving nod.
“Thank you, Lieutenant.”
She rose from the captain’s chair and clasped her hands behind her back as she addressed him.
“I believe you’ve summarized exactly what this crew needs to hear. Command may change, but our purpose does not. The ArkAngel will continue her mission, just as every Starfleet vessel has before her.”
A faint smile crossed her face.
“I also appreciate your observations about the bonds that develop among a crew. Trust isn’t simply an emotional comfort—it is an operational strength. It allows officers to rely on one another without hesitation when the stakes are at their highest.”
She looked around the bridge, allowing her words to carry to every station.
“Captain Becket fostered that trust. It is now our responsibility to preserve it.”
Returning her attention to Soral, she gave another respectful nod.
“I am grateful for your commitment to this ship and her crew. Your steady presence and measured judgment will be invaluable during this transition.”
Charlotte settled back into the center seat, her eyes returning to the stars beyond the viewscreen.
“Change is inevitable. How we respond to it defines us. I have every confidence that the officers of the ArkAngel will meet this moment with the same professionalism and dedication that has always distinguished this crew.”
The bridge fell comfortably quiet once more, each officer returning to their duties as the ArkAngel continued her journey toward Starbase 243.
Commander Dr. Charlotte M. Kelley
XO USS ARK ANGELSoral inclined his head in acknowledgment of the Commander’s remarks.
“Your assessment is logical, Commander,” he said in his customary measured tone. “The continuity of a crew is determined not by the individual occupying the center seat, but by the principles to which its members remain committed.”
His gaze settled briefly upon the stars beyond the viewscreen.
“Change is an inevitable constant. The measure of a crew is not whether it experiences change, but whether it maintains its purpose throughout it.”
He paused for a moment before continuing.
“I have observed that this crew possesses a resilience which extends beyond the tenure of any one commanding officer. I therefore see no logical reason to doubt the Ark Angel will continue to distinguish itself under your leadership.”
Soral offered a final respectful inclination of his head before returning his attention to his station. There was nothing further to add. The Commander had spoken with conviction, the bridge crew had heard her, and the ship continued steadily toward the Starbase.
Lt Soral T’Varan
Chief Diplomatic Officer
USS Ark AngelCharlotte met Soral’s respectful nod with one of her own, allowing a brief silence before responding.
“Thank you, Lieutenant. Your confidence is appreciated.”
She remained composed, though there was a warmth in her expression that reflected her respect for the Vulcan officer.
“I have no intention of trying to replace Captain Becket. Every commanding officer leads in their own way, and the crew deserves authenticity rather than imitation.”
Her gaze swept across the bridge before returning to Soral.
“My responsibility is simply to ensure that the standards he established—and the ideals Starfleet expects of us—continue to guide this ship. I will rely on the experience and counsel of every department head as we move forward.”
She offered him a small, appreciative smile.
“That includes yours. Diplomacy has always been one of Starfleet’s greatest strengths, and I expect your perspective will be invaluable in the days ahead.”
Charlotte rested a hand lightly on the arm of the center seat.
“The ArkAngel’s future won’t be shaped by one officer alone. It will be shaped by all of us, working together—as we always have.”
With that, she turned her attention once more to the viewscreen, watching the stars race by as the ship maintained her course for Starbase 243. There was uncertainty ahead, but there was also purpose, and that was more than enough to guide them home.
Commander Dr. Charlotte M. Kelley
XO USS ARK ANGELSoral inclined his head in a measured gesture of acknowledgment.
“Your confidence is appreciated, Commander,” he replied evenly. “You may rely upon my counsel whenever it is required.”
He paused briefly before continuing.
“While I remain a student of diplomacy, I have observed that its greatest successes are achieved through cooperation rather than individual accomplishment. I believe the Ark Angel is well positioned to continue that tradition.”
His gaze followed the Commander’s to the stars beyond the viewscreen.
“Vulcans have a saying: ‘The beginning of wisdom is the recognition of one’s own limitations.’ It is… encouraging to observe a commanding officer who recognizes the value of drawing upon the experience of those entrusted with supporting her.”
Soral offered one final inclination of his head before returning his attention to the diplomatic status display at his station. The discussion had reached its logical conclusion. Further words would contribute little; his actions in the days ahead would speak with greater clarity than any reassurance he could offer.
Lt Soral T’Varan
Chief Diplomatic Officer
USS Ark AngelCharlotte listened without interruption, allowing Soral’s words to settle over the bridge before responding.
“Thank you, Lieutenant.”
She offered a respectful nod in return.
“I’ve found that no commanding officer succeeds alone. A captain may set the course, but it is the officers around them who ensure the ship reaches its destination. Knowing when to seek their counsel is not a weakness—it is one of the responsibilities of command.”
Her gaze briefly followed his toward the stars before returning to the bridge.
“I appreciate the Vulcan perspective you’ve shared. Wisdom often begins with understanding what we do not know, and with having the confidence to learn from those who do.”
She looked around at the bridge crew, each officer quietly carrying out their duties.
“This crew has earned my trust through their professionalism and dedication. My expectation is that we will continue to challenge one another, offer honest advice when it is needed, and support one another when difficult decisions must be made.”
Returning her attention to Soral, she inclined her head.
“I look forward to working alongside you, Lieutenant. I have every confidence that your judgment will continue to strengthen this crew.”
Charlotte allowed the conversation to end there. Nothing more needed to be said. The quiet hum of the bridge and the steady progression toward Starbase 243 spoke to the confidence of a crew already preparing for its next chapter.
