Shortly after Becket had packed up everything in his quarters he went ahead and took a little stroll within the halls of the Ark Angel. Alex wasn’t sure what else to do but he thought that it would be the best choice and action to meet the new Junior officer.

He finally went back to the bridge and headed back to the ready room as his last final act as commanding officer. He tapped his combadge. =/\=”Ensign Gibbs when you can please report to the ready room.”=/\=

=/\= “Acknowledged Captain. I’m on my way.” =/\=

Gibbs rose up from his bed and put on a uniform shirt. Checking himself in the mirror and seeing some stray hairs, he first wetted, then took a comb through his hair to control any stray lochs. He brushed his uniform as he left his quarters on deck 41 and headed to the turbolift. As the doors closed, he closed his eyes and stated. “Bridge’.

Nothing happened. Gibbs looked around and tried again, “Bridge.” This time the turbolift replied, “Turbolift occupant not granted Bridge clearance. Unable to comply.”

Thinking back to his time familiarizing himself with the Mythology Class specs, he wanted to test a theory. “Deck 3”

The turbolift started to move at a brisk pace bringing him to Deck 3 in only a few moments. Gibbs walked until he found the XO’s office. He knew this place aboard the ship would always be manned by a senior NCO. “Hello. My name is Ensign Walter Gibbs.” He announced, “I recently transferred aboard and I received a request from Captain Becket to meet him in his ready room on Deck One. I do not yet have Deck One authorization. May I request temporary access?”

Gibbs tapped his communicator to play Captain Becket’s message to prove he had a genuine need. It didn’t take long, but soon he was granted a one-time authorization. Gibbs left the XO’s office returning to the Turbolift. This time he was successful and was able to reach the top of the ship, Deck One.

When the doors opened, he did not step off. “Ensing Gibbs requesting permission to enter the Bridge. Captain Becket requested my presence in his Ready Room.”

Ensign Gibbs

Becket had then stood up and head to his replicator and stated. “Earl Grey Tea, hot.” He said. Shortly after he grabbed his tea he sat down and awaited.

it did not take long for the duty Security officer to escort Gibbs from the turbolift to the Ready Room.

Gibbs mind was like a hyperactive puppy as tried to not look at EVERYTHING as he walked…The flashing displays and readouts…The crew working with efficiency of motion.. the… ‘OMG! Who is that in the command seat? Is that the XO?!?’ he screamed in his head.

Time seemed to slow to a crawl as his eyes looked her in wonder. He took in her features in an instant and all he could think was…’WOW! Impressive’.

Time returned to its normal flow as Gibbs heard a voice. It was close and seemed to be addressing him. The security officer repeated his question, “Is everything OK, Ensign. You seem distracted.”

“First time on the Bridge.” Gibbs answered, “Just taking it all in.”

“The Captain requested to see you and he is a busy man. I would get to it if I were you.”

“Thank you.” GIbbs nodded his agreement and rang the chime and waited for permission to enter.

Ensign Gibbs

Becket heard the chime and looked up. “Enter.” Said the voice behind the door. “Ah. Ensign. Welcome aboard the Ark Angel.” He said.

“Thank you, sir.” Gibbs answered. “I look forward to my time aboard ship.”

“Sir, If you do not mind the question, scuttlebutt about the ship is that you are transferring out. Is that true, and where will you be going?”

Ens. Gibbs.

He smiled at Ensign Gibbs. “Well, transferring out is a yes. Sadly, I’m not going to have a retirement. I was actually misinformed. I am being assigned at the academy as a command instructor. There is someone whom I know, and sadly, I am very unsure of how she will be taking over. From my information, she is a former maquis and now a commanding officer being transferred here.” He replied

“Sir, I believe your replacement will be a person of strong convictions and character.” Gibbs replied, ” From what I remember of the Maqui, they were people who felt the Federation had done wrong in their dealings with the Cardassians. They rebelled to attempt to set things right, so to speak. If a person who rebelled once has returned and worked their way up the ranks to command a starship, then I believe that is a measure of their loyalty.”

Ensign Gibbs.

Becket sat there hearing what Gibbs had said. “I agree. But yes I’m transferring off the ship to the academy. But anyways enough of me. Tell me about you. What brought you here?” He asked.

“I transferred from Starbase 47 where I was part of their science team. My team worked on extended studies of the Vaicaro Sector. Seven inhabited solar systems with varying technology levels. I have done planetary surveys, atmospheric analysis, geographic research. We even got to name a new comet during by last tour. All in all, sir. pretty pedestrian stuff.”

“I was excited to be billeted aboard a starship. I see it as a way to expand my knowledge base and be more useful to you…er, your replacement…and the ship.”

Ensign Gibbs

“Science Officer on Starbase 47? I have heard about everyone on there. Saw your name on the roster.” He said.

‘Really? Is he pulling my leg?’ Gibbs thought to himself. The old demon of self-doubt creeping in.

“Thank you for saying so, sir. I tried to let my work speak for me. I was lucky to have served with some fine officers who helped me to stand out.”

“If I may, was there anything in particular that piqued your interest in me?”

Ensign Gibbs.

He smiled. “Yes. Your talents in the science department. And the love the sciences involved within.” He replied. “Trust me. I saw the same in your department head. Actually she’s new to being a Department head here on board the Ark Angel.” He added.

“I have not had the pleasure of introducing myself as of yet. Seems she is on a project away from the ship at this moment.” Gibbs answered, “You can count on me sir. I will be solid officer for her and the A. A.”

“If I seem out of sorts, sir. It is because I am not used to, well… having someone in your position know who I am.” Gibbs sensed he might be going down a rocky road, but he felt good in saying it, “I come from a family of NCO’s. We are used to working for Departments or for high-ranking officials, in the background. As support. It is a role I know well and understand.”

“So, being told I am good at my job from the leader of a ship of hundreds, without a having met that person before…It is humbling…sir.”

Ensign Gibbs.
