USS Ark Angel

The Arrival

The transporter hummed softly as a brilliant column of blue-white light filled Transporter Room One aboard the USS ArkAngel (NCC-98729).

When the light faded, the first thing anyone noticed wasn’t the officer’s rank pips—it was his size.

Lieutenant Dr. Mark Callous stood nearly seven feet tall, his broad shoulders stretching the black yoke of his Starfleet medical uniform. The blue division colors contrasted sharply against his massive frame. Auburn hair, neatly trimmed, framed a stern but composed face, while gray-green eyes quietly surveyed the room with practiced awareness.

In one hand he carried a single well-worn duffel bag. In the other was a reinforced medical equipment case bearing the seal of Starfleet Medical.

The transporter chief blinked once before recovering his professionalism.

“Welcome aboard the ArkAngel, Lieutenant.”

Callous inclined his head.

“Thank you.”

His voice was deep enough to seem almost felt rather than heard, calm and deliberate without the slightest hint of arrogance.

The transporter chief handed over a PADD.

“Captain Becket has assigned you temporary quarters on Deck Six. You’re expected in Sickbay after you’ve settled in. Lieutenant Commander Dr. Charlotte Kelley, the Executive Officer, has requested that you report to her once you’re aboard.”

Callous accepted the PADD.

“Understood.”

Without another word, he stepped off the transporter pad.

Crew members moving through the corridor instinctively shifted aside as the giant medical officer passed. Some glanced twice, a few whispered to one another, and an ensign carrying diagnostic equipment stopped outright before realizing she was staring.

Callous paid none of it any attention.

His measured stride carried him through the gleaming corridors with quiet confidence born not from ego, but experience. He had walked through burning settlements, collapsed mines, breached orbital stations, and makeshift field hospitals where every heartbeat mattered.

Compared to those places…

A Galaxy-class starship felt almost peaceful.

As he reached a viewport overlooking the ArkAngel’s immense saucer section, he paused for only a moment, taking in the stars beyond.

“Let’s see what needs fixing,” he murmured.

Then, without hesitation, Lieutenant Dr. Mark Callous resumed his walk toward Sickbay, ready to begin the next chapter of his career among the officers and crew of the USS ArkAngel.
